STan Gilday was the man..

Interesting story, and thanks for raising him. All stats provided by Stephen Williamson, Stats Guru and key contributor to the Blueseum.

Mr.Electric Blue, one question if you will, was it apparent that Gilday was not going to make it at senior level, or did it dash the hopes of the fans that he wasn't a senior player let alone ever given the chance?

From the Blueseum

Ok I remember Stan probably firstly for his physique, he was "barrel Chested' in the most classic sense of th eword, this was an VFL dominatinated by enforcer type characters Rene Kink, Ditterich, Ron Andrews etc, Carlton were allways a bit light on in that department, Wayne Harmes was probably as close as we had, so when this big pigeon chested Stan Gilday was running around you thought , cool, we might have an enforcer, maybe the ressies made him look a little bigger too. Back in those days we also got to see the under 19's play a little bit in curtainraisers etc, Stan carved it up at that level.

I had Stan's name in a strip form on my Duffel Jacket on the arm... and I was very dissapointed he never made it.... Any one got any pics of Stan or know what happened to him?

Jezza.
A potentially great player but never made it into Mike Sheehans top twenty.

Brad "Pearse the off" Pearse
Laurence Angwin

I was just browsing a few stats and noticed that Phillips played one more game than what Murphy has with about 70 more possessions to his name.

Obviously Murphy was heavily tagged last year so that may contribute to his stats being down compared to Phillips, but Phillips got off to a slow start to his career, he only managed 13.5 touches a game in his first 22 games.

However in his third and last season with the Blues he averaged an amazing 27 possessions a game and in his last five games for the Blues averaged an amazing 35 possessions a game! Talk about being cut down in your prime. 3rd in the B&F. He was only 21 when his career ended.

Phillips was a huge loss to us.

From memory his last game was 42 touches and 41 the week before.

I think Michael James also had a very high possession count to finish that season.

Gentleman, Andrew Phillips was a little beauty destined to be a great CFC player. Those that saw him play will know what I'm talking about. :( Really hurt us when he went down and then soon after Whitehead followed.

I think the late 90's even early 00's might have been different if these two where up and running.
