Thanks to a thread on BigFooty, the Blueseum writers have begun to piece together a series on the great home & away victories of the Carlton Football Club. Beginning in the 1990's, and with part 1 focussing on 1990-1993, the attached link has some great memories for you to reminisce over some great games from 15 odd years ago.

Look at the names - Dorotich, Oliver, Spalding, SOS, Tarczon....wow, what memories.

If you have anything to add to any of these games, or have any suggestions for 1994-1999, please feel free to add them in to the site, this thread, or via PM to this identity.

From the Blueseum

ps We don't seem to have a good action shot of Darren Tarczon on site, so if you have any, please feel free to send them in.

Knocking the 'invincible' Weagles off at PP in 1994, with Braddles kicking THAT goal. We should've won the flag that year :(

How about in 92' when we beat the then invincible eagles with Minton Connels kick from the boundary line - was that round 15 and they were undefeated?

The centenary match against the pies.

Our first win against the crows - their first loss

Win over the bombers in the first night final in 93'

kingkerna,

The first game is Round 14, 1991, and is listed in the article.

Also the Collingwood centenary match is in there.

Our first win against the Crows isn't as yet but that's a good choice, particularly given the build-up and after they pumped the Hawks in Round 1.

The final isn't added to this particular series as the focus is on H&A games.

I reckon that was a bit earlier than that - probably 1990.

A bit of revisionism thanks to Blueseum Round Round 14 - 1991.

The 1991 win over the undefeated West Coast, with Minton-Connell's goal from the boundary to win the game, is the best home and away match I've ever been to.

In the herald sun that Saturday morning not 1 expert tipped us except for Tony De Bolfo, by 3 points (I think that was the margin, and he got it right)

I would add the game against the weagles at Subi in 1993 when Oliver stood in for an injured Kernahan and Diesel was on fire! Mainwaring had a chance to win the game in the dying seconds with a kick from the boundary line but instead hit the post and we got hom by a point. Awesome game! 8)

Yes, its down the bottom there, Round 14, 1993

http://www.blueseum.org/tiki-index.php? ... 14%2C+1993

We dont' have whether this was the Williams / Lewis spit game, but it was Ratten's 50th. Shows how long ago we are talking!

And kingkerna, think of this identity as the spirit of Jars' website but with the words of others who promote and love the site. But its not Jars.

Round 12 1995 vs Geelong. One of the best games of the year.

Also Kouta's match in 1996 against WC.

Beauie's 8 against Collingwood in 1999.

The scoreboard fire in 1997.

We are spoilt - so many to choose from...

Good calls from Half - Geelong R12 in 95 and WCE (the Kouta game) R5 in 96.

A couple of other greats in 95 were v. Richmond in R14 and West Coast in R21.

Carlton & Richmond were 1 & 2 on the ladder both with 11 wins from 13. Big hype pre-match and 85,000 turned up at the G. Madden played his 300th. Does anybody have a pic of the dinosaur that was on his banner? A high standard game and tight most of the day but in the end the Blues were too strong and finished with a 5-0 last quarter to win by 30 points. 6 goals to Kernahan and 4 for Pearce.

Round 21 at Subiaco was a tough game. Probably our most heroic win of the year. It was close a close game all day but we spent most of it a goal or two down. A great team effort to get the 1 point win. I think that Rice kicked the winner. Any other recollections?

The scoreboard fire was Round 22 in 99. We lost to Richmond by 11 points. Behind all night but were catching up at the end.

I thought it was last round. I remember hanging out a car window hurtling down punt road screaming that we'd be back next week while all you richmond scum will be at pipeworks, or words to that effect :-D

I would put this up with one of the best Carlton Home and Away games of all time - this was the Heavyweight Title Fight for Season 1995 - Geelong threw everything they had at us and couldn't knock us out - huge psychological advantage come Grand Final time. 8)

It was one of the last times I stood at the football in the outer - having lent my Pratt Stand Seat tickets to an overseas friend - stood on the wing under Pratt Stand side - and Princes Park was rocking - classic Ablett -v- Silvagni battle - nail biting finish.

Same. Brilliant match, & IIRC right near the finish Craig Bradley had to dive at a near certain goal in the goal square to rush it for a behind.

Another classic from that year was Rd 7 against Essendon*. No Kernahan or Williams, had to scratch & claw for every goal but got there by 7 points in the end. Gleeson kicked 2 near the end to seal it.

What about the big come from behind win against the saints at Waverley in 92. Dorotich to CHF after half time turned the game.

I remember that one!! Ten goal 3rd quarter to the scoreboard end, I was there. May have even been an 11 goal quarter but Dora was inspirational. God I miss Waverley.

PS Wasn't the scoreboard burning in round 22, 1999?

Yes, Round 22, 1999.

Would love to know if this was actually a good game or whether it just sticks in the memory for the warmth it provided through the fire?
