Post subject:  NAB Cup - Dilemma to win or not to win

With all the excitement this year. And our first NAB cup game around the corner all I want to see is the navy blue boys win a game.

I have been reading on hear that people don't want us to win because of previous years.

Even our coach has been saying that the NAB cup isn't the focus. He will be playing the kids and don't expect us to win. Thats the feeling I'm getting from him and supports seem to be happy with that.

Pagan might have put too much enthuses on the NAB cup but it did bring hope to the club and the extra memberships you get from a good NAB performance are important for the clubs future. We did have a record membership after our NAB victory.

All I want to see is a Carlton victory even if it is an NAB cup game as long as we play the kids what is wrong with trying to win the game.

GO BLUES 2008!! :-D

They will be playing to win, just the selections, match-ups, and the interchanges will most likely influence the outcome as they'll be trying out different players in different positions. There's no way they'll be "trying to lose!"

I’m thinking finals this year, so its all about the season proper. If we win great, if not … meh

Focus on the season. If they win a few games so be it.

A pre-season win would be great, backed with finals in the real game

Should always try your best to win. If we win the cup it doesn't necessarily mean disaster for our season. What killed us wasn't winning the cup, but the way we conducted ourselves in previous pre-seasons, having it as a focus. If we win it, when not focusing so much energy on it, bonus.

A win without Fev, Judd and a few other stars I could more than cope with

Lets do the reverse of last year.

Tank the NAB Cup, then win the Premiership.

If you can win at the same time as giving game time to some of the younger players then why wouldn't you...especially when we're going to have the play the regional games anyway. If we go all the way this year thats $1m to split up between the players isn't it?

If we lose, so be it..

I think you only get the 1mil if you win the pre-season and the the premiership cup in the same year. But they have added an extra 100 thousand to this years 1st prize money to the NAB cup.

Oh right, i thought they added an incentive if you win two nab cups in a row or something?

I just hope we maintain focus on our squad becoming a better all round team. If we win a few Mickey Mouse Cup games, great, if not, but our development remains on track and to the coaches' expectations, then I couldn't care less.

The prize money's not as important to us these days so the NAB Cup should be treated as development time for our youth. The score doesn't really matter as long as we don't get a hiding.

if the score doesn't really matter, shouldn't the result also be irrelevant QFT :?

QFT.

It's not a good guide, but getting more matches with more "match pressure' may be better for the younger players, but if not, oh well.

I think it would be nice to win the first game against Port as it would give Ratts his first victory as coach and may take off a little pressure.

For the remainder of the pre-season comp I'm really not too bothered, as long as we don't get any serious injuries I'll be happy.

Agreed. Win the first then throw the rest.
