Just got back from the family day. Would have liked to stay longer and wait for the players to be introduced but unfortunately the little ones had enough.

Lots of people and when I was leaving, many more were coming in. They were using one of the ovals as a car park and that was full, so were the surounding streets.

Pretty well set up. They had the usual kid things, jumping castles, slides but have to admit a few less then last year.

They had a Visy tent giving away blue shopping bags with little recycling bins (very cute as my girls said). They also had a Telechoice tent giving away those yellow T-Shirts with Go Blues on the back. Also had a few Hyundai's lined up. They really looked after their sponsors and got full exposure. Well done!!!

Next was the tent to get signatures, when I went past I saw Judd (Of course), Carrots and Murph couldn't see the others as there was a crowd but the que to get the autograph went for about 100 metres maybe longer.

There were lots of players mingling, I saw Hammer (being 200+ cm and he was happy to crouch down for the little kids to take a photo), Benji, Walks, Eddie etc.

They had a band.

There was a comedian. I think it was George S......ch (?) someone, from the eighties, early nighties. In my opinion he wasn't really that funny.

A few members signed up and the merchandise stand was busy. They had jumpers with Juddy's number pre-made (not sure how much) and plain jumpers which you could purchase and then you were given a ticket if you wanted another number on it which you took it to another tent where there was a bloke pressing the required number on the jumper. Well done on this as today would have paid for machine.

Anyway that is all I had to report but again great crowd from the start and going strong when I left...............

GO BLUES!!!!!!

Yeah, similar report to to Jez. I got back from there around 1pm.

There were thousands of people at the ground, at least 7,000, and people coming and going. Many people signing up for memberships outside when I arrived. Many also paying to go in - perhaps will renew or sign up later in the season - wonder if increased interest rates may affect families from signing up or renewing?

Giving away free Judd & Fevola posters signed at the Hyundai marquee.

Richard Pratt was walking around signing autographs and posing for photos with fans. Got one myself.

Excellent set up for family day and little Wangers liked the little Visy bins, cannot stop playing with them.

By the time 4pm hits, there would have been at least 20,000+ go through the gates, have no doubt.

Financially, a big windfall for the club judging by the amount of jumpers, numbers on guernseys, merchandise and memberships being sold.

yeh it was a great day and met a lot of players and got photos and autographs (some of the lines for autographs for ridiculously long). The club probably made heaps of money because the carlton shop was full all day plus a lot of people were renewing or buying new memberships. The best thing though was when the players were being given their guernseys and when ratts introduced Juddy Ratts said that he is scheduled to play round 1 :-D

George "I'm so hot" Smilovic?

I didn't realise he was still alive!

That's hilarious!

He did his clean version of the "I'm tough" routine.

which I still have on cassette from the 80s.

I thought there were more activities for the kids this year than last year. Very well organised by the club, my kids had a ball today. It is invaluable to them when you are beginning the brainwashing before primary school age to be able to run around and see hundreds of other kids their age in Carlton gear.

Did not see the Blueseum stand anywhere?

Popped out with the kids and a bit more upbeat than the last few I've been to.

Ratts did a good job introducing the players and telling us all where they are currently at.

The three things I found most interesting:

1. When Gibbs introduced Ratts commented that he'd be spending most of his time midfield and across the half forward line in 2008. Made me happy as I think we need more goalkickers and he was pretty good at that playing seniors in SA (kicked 6 one day in that role). His finish and class will be handy in a forward line that lacks depth in goalkickers.

2. Fish only playing half a game next week, so Jake has his chance to impress so I hope he grabs it with both hands.

3. Carrots nominated as best pre-season performer. A credit to this guy's dedication and professionalism and glad that he got a huge roar when Ratts introduced him.

I also think Dick should limit his public speaking. I'm sure me mentioned that "Kreuger" was an exciting new recruit for us! Correct me if I'm wrong, please. Smorgo should give up the speech writing, maybe?

They showed that on the news tonight. Following up from Adam Simpson, I think you may be right.

Sports Tonight picked up that one too.

But hey, he's old and he's rich and he loves us, does Dick.

Perhaps a new nickname for our number one draft pick...

"Freddie"

Hopefully he can slash the opposition a new one.

Car broke down so got there late. The crowd was huge despite the fact we missed the jumper presentation.
Queue for Judd's signature was actually 7/8th across the Oval no joke!
Lots of kiddie jumping castles etc.
Hardly any merchandise left except for preprinted no 5 jumpers.
Bought one for little billc3No2 despite the fact that he wanted a No 6 (they had run out of "plain" jumpers.

Mouthguard for littlebillc3No1 and no25 on the back of his away jumper...courtesy of a 1 hour wait...the poor girl at the heat press was doing a great job despite the obvious blisters on her fingers.

A great day despite our "personal" disasters...the club should really take a bow!

Adding to the success of the day was the sale of 850 Memberships taking the 2008

The kids activities were better choices this year than last. Some thought seemed to go into making the activities faster to move the kids though so the queueing wasnt as bad.
Got there late so missed out on most the player presentations etc.

Was keeping an eye out for the 6 or so TC'ers i would recongnise to say hi, but didn;t notice any of you
