Post subject: | Pagan's press confrence "we let down the Navy Blue Jump |
He was very calm (me thinks almost too calm - in fact Carey off FFC says he detected some underlying anger), said that they'd "let down the club, the supporters and THE NAVY BLUE JUMPER". Suggested that the only good thing was that they had a chance to atone in six days. He was asked whether this was just one of those days that teams have, rather than a malaise or some inherent problem and he responded by saying that you don't feel that way just after the gaame. The implication was pretty clear - "We thought we'd picked the right group of blokes, we thought we were over this sort of thing". He said that early, the younger players were too defensive and the oleder players too attacking. (didn't see the game or hear it, so I don't know what that means). Said the worst part was the lack of pysical and mental toughness - no pressure applied, didn't follow the game plan (he said that they had spoken during the week about all the things Richmond wuould do - players slipping off the back of the pack, etc, and the players understood, but come game day, Richmond did what was discussed, and we did not). Personally, I thought he was embarrassed. He was just too damn calm - it couldn't be real. I wouldn't want to be there Monday to train. |

Hmmm... I like Pagan's comments - they certainly echo mine at the minute. Let's hope this is the kick up the bum they need. We've seen this team perform before. They can do it again, but only if they want to. Nothing comes easily in this game. |

It was talked about a few weeks ago that the team needed a lashing in the media, and no doubt it will come this week. Hopefully, like other teams, the boys will respond positively and come out firing on Friday night. |

People need to realise before bagging Pagan that players were given instructions AND THEY DID NOT FOLLOW THEM. What more can the coach do? If the players aren't in the right mental state, no one can get through to them |

denis is only thinking "shit have we got some problems" interesting that he thought the young guys were playing too defensive.....all i have heard over this year about AW's role is tagger, tagger. Maybe let him off the leash. I know he is not the only solution to the problem.....but you compare his negative role to the atacking role that Delidio played today - well. good on him for trying setanta......but also demonstrates the lack of options he recognises we have. having said that he is must now persist with setanta. let him now learn the game at the pace he will ultimately have to play it. denis would no doubt be scratching his head, because minus Fevola we lack a match winner.....or a game buster. |

Sporn is one that seems too defensive; even scared to think about running off his opponent. |

Good on Pagan. This week won't be easy for the boys, and rightly so. |

I've always wanted to know what it would be like to be on the end of a Denis Pagan spray. I wouldn't want to know what it would be like tomorrow morning at 9am. |

Pagan is calm because he knows he can't do much with the shit list he has he knows it but will not admit it. The players just dont listen to him. |

Yes training is tomorrow and the boys will be lining up against their mothers for two twenty minute quarters. It is mothers day remember. I just rang Gary Davies from Sportsbet and the mothers are $1.35 favourites. A good bet I reckon. |

Pagan is calm because we have a match to play in 6 days. The playing group will be demoralised, devastated and sadly lacking in confidence. If the truth be known, they were 20 minutes into the match. Caning them on the track and blasting them will achieve nothing. We have a team with 2x18 year olds, plenty of inexperience and lots of confidence players. When we get a roll on we are OK, when the pressure is on, we can be mentally fragile. But lets not kid ourselves, we all knew this. Denis has a responsibility to get them up for Friday. Blasting them may make him and us feel better but the bigger picture is more important. |

The one thing that pagan will stress for next week is to give it a right go and have pride in the jumper. Just like after the dees thrashing last year pagan will put the emphasis this week on the players. it will be a case of " you can go out there, compete and have a chance of winning or else go out there and get rolled over". i know which one the player will want. i expect the boys to come back next week and give the cats a good game to atone for this week |
