Who are the 4 greatest Carlton players ever? No criteria as such, as some of you will consider no.of games played to be vitally important, and others will consider this less crucial, placing instead ability at the top of the list irrespective of no.of games played. In other words, is Diesel in our top 4?

Reason I want to do this, is I would like to think one day Judd will be in the list, and therefore we'd have a TOP 5.

Please try and limit it to 4 names people.

Mine are...

(in no order)

Doull (VFL/AFL Team of the Century, one of the greatest defenders the game has seen and played a shitload of games)
Stephen Silvagni (best Full Back ever and played over 300 games)
Nichols (another long serving player and from all I have heard an absolute huge presence and stand-out big man)
Kernahan (I can think of better players, but he is regarded as the best captain we have ever had and is a household name)

Every player listed so far has played in the last 50 years.

We won the same number of premierhips in the 60 years before that.

I'd feel more comfortable answering if the question was over the last 30 years, in which case it would rule out Jezza and Nicholls, who I never saw play.

In which case

Doull
SOS
Diesel
Sticks

I've been going to the footy since 1982, so I'll list my best Carlton players in the last 25 years:

Sticks
Diesel
Braddles
Dominator

Kouta in 2000 was the best of them all, but didn't perform at that standard long enough to bump out any of the above. Ratten, SOS and Harry just missed out too.

Doull
SOS
Sticks
Nicholls

A list of 4 is too short.
Examples;
Braddles - absolutely brilliant, games record holder.
Kouta - revolutionised the game and recruiting before he injured his knee.
Diesel - champion - 2 Brownlows, a norm smith, etc
Rhys-Jones - my favourite Norm Smith medallist. I flower hate Brereton!

John Nicholls
Bruce Doull
Jezza
Stephen Kernahan

Sticks and Big John get gig additional points for leadership, and Bj gets even more points for intimidating everyone

If I was allowed to comment with my heart I would have Harmes in my top 4.

Sure, he didn't achieve as much as the other players mentioned, but he had that magical quality that I haven't seen from other footballers.

One of the best long kicks ever to play the game, great high mark etc etc.
Broke through packs.

But I guess by the criteria set you would have to have:-

Jezza
Doull
McKay
Big Nick
Sticks
and
Diesel.

Not sure who to pick out of that. Diesel - he only played about 100 games in navy blue - so i would rub him out and maybe McKay of the final 4.
