Blues finding their inner pride

Quote:
WHEN Brett Ratten took over as coach of the Blues, one of his keenest desires was to bring the Carlton back to Carlton. That means the pride and the swagger of a successful club as opposed to the demeanour of one that has finished last three times in six years.

It's almost criminal how quickly these guys (Pratt, Swann, Ratts) have been able to completely change the vibe of the club. It's as much a testament to them as it is an indictment on those that were here before.

What I loved is mentoring of younger guys with former greats of the club. For years I've been hoping that some system gets put in place to let these young fellas know just what it means to wear that jumper, and the honour that goes with it. It shows that it's not just about the talent, but making these guys feel 10 ft tall.

Interesting that he has clearly marked Waite down for CHB, which is a gamble but the guy knows these players better than we do. Interesting that he mentioned Hadley as a possible CHF :?

Interesting bit at the end about recently hiring a "coaches' coach" John de Stefano.

Anyone know anything else about this?

Agree Donstuie about what those 3 have done for us. They're restoring our pride and dignity thank God. Absolute legends all of them so far.

He's probably there to make sure that the coaches are treating the players in the right way for each circumstance. Eg, if they have a big loss, do you kick their arse, or nurture? It seems something old Den-Den could never quite figure out.

The guy was with the Storm, and we can see how well their system works. So let's hope those sorts of results come our way.

What I would like is a system similar to Geelong's where the leadership group is given extra 'leadership training' from someone perhaps from outside the club. It did wonders for their leadership group in 07, considering what a rabble they were the year before.

Yeah that Geelong idea sounds like a great initiative.

It's so good to see our club finally embracing the modern way of doing things and trying every method possible to help us advance. Thank God!

I love the idea of past Carlton people mentoring this young squad. It's like family traditions that need to be taught and practised while you grow up so you can then pass them on to your kids.
Also I think the idea of a coaches coach sounds sensible for such a new group of coaches as well.
Go Ratts. :-D

The mentoring idea is great in principle providing they pick the right mentors.

There are a few ex-players I wouldn't want anywhere near our impressionable little boys.

I was thinking the same thing GWS.

Imagine Lawrence Angwin as a mentor.
