wouldnt it also @#$%&! up the other games scheduled for the G that weekend? even if Vics finished friday, theres no way you could prepare the ground for AFL that weekend? and those games can't be moved to TD as other games are on. just doesen't make sense to me. Pura Cup final for Punt Road ![]() |

In today's paper - Pura Cup final has been moved back so that it will end day before round 1. MCG comfortable they can remove drop-in pitch and soften outfield adequately in 24 hours. Still ridiculous scheduling though. |

We do better at the G than at the Toilet Bowl I hope the ground's ready in time - we don't need pointless R1 injuries because they couldn't accommodate the sporting issues for that time of year |

I've heard at least two interviews with Stephen Gough where he has remained adamant that the Round One Game is not under threat from the Vics potentially hosting the Pura Cup final. Besides... NSW just went back top of the table ![]() |

Cricket Australia averts pitch battle Quote: CRICKET Australia has averted a potentially messy MCG showdown between cricket and Australian football by scheduling a change in date for the Pura Cup final.
The original Pura Cup fixture had the final finishing on March 20, the day of the AFL round one Carlton-Richmond clash. Victoria are in an excellent position to host the final, sitting atop the table with New South Wales, but Cricket Australia has brought forward the starting date of the five-day final to Saturday, March 15, which gives the MCG one day to transform from cricket arena to football stadium. Should Victoria host the final, the MCG ground staff could still have as few as 25 hours to remove the drop-in square of pitches and soften the outfield for football. But MCC curator Tony Ware said he was certain the stadium would cope with the rapid overhaul of its playing surface. "We have to plan that the cricket will go until 6pm or 6.30pm on March 19. We have got the capability to take all the wickets out and get it done overnight and it will be a footy field the next day," Ware said. "There are plenty of things to do but we can get it done overnight." |

i already wrote in the membership thread that CA and the AFL had agreed to bring back the date of the pura cup final if victoria were to host the final. i don't think we have anything to worry about cos nsw haev two home games coming up and should win both but if victoria were to host the final i think it's present a few problems to our footy game the following day. for starters, the length of the grass for cricket is about 8-10mm and for footy i'm pretty sure it needs to be at least 18mm. there's no way that's going to be fixed overnight and if juddy or someone else gets injured because the grass is too short we're all gonna be mighty pissed off. i don't know much about drop-in pitches but i'm guessing when they remove it the centre of the ground is probably going to be really soft and sticky and just not ideal to play afl footy on. i think we're safe for now but it's going to throw up a few problems if the vics do host the final. extremely poor scheduling. |
