Took the family to the Kouta Souvlaki Hut and was served by the great man himself. What a gentleman! He told us he has recorded 8 episodes of Gladiators and has to return to Sydney to record another 8. Was at the club last night and got some tips from the Blues. He looks fantastic and says he wished he could be playing this year - partcularly with the kids and Judd. My wife and daughter in law were taken by his height and build but particulalry his open attitude and downright friendliness. He is now the face of the Souvlki Hut franchise and deserves to be there. He loves to see Blues supporters.

Is this in the training thread because Kouta is in training for Gladiators? :-D

I love Kouta................ :-D

Never been man enough to say hello to him thou. Just far to shy and nervous when in the great mans presence!

One day i will venture out to get a souva.

I was there with Acudoc and echo his sentiments. I have never spoken with the great man, but was amazed how easy he is to talk to, a genuinely nice person (and a simply massive unit). As Acudoc said, Koutaman is very excited about the boy's prospects this year.

Ryan2000, just remember Kouta is extremely approachable, and will be happy to have a chat with you.

Yeah......... I'm sure he would be. But my return chat would go something like this:-

Ryan to Kouta:
"Errr,.....umm.......errr,.......ummmm......buh...buh......buh"

Kouta to Ryan:-
"RIIIIGGGHHTTTT! Well, nice to meet you. Gotta go!"

What's the food like there? I've heard mixed reports. If it's alright I'm not far from Donny East and could swing by.

Personally I like the food, their souvlakis are a different style to what you get at Lambs or Stalactites, but IMHO they are very tasty. They also have salads, great chips, meatballs along with other stuff.

It is located in Lower Templestowe.

Certainly worth a try.

Not a big fan of Souvlaki Hut, meat isn't as tender as other players and it has that fast foodish type of quality

The cakes are nice though, try the yoyo (in Greek called Kok), which is like a Greek Doughnut with creme inside and chocolate on top

As far as I know, Kouta and Christou own the entire Souv Hut franchise.

Not bad, but I prefer 'Mr Funny Kebab' down the road. :-D

Yep, pretty sure he doesn't own them all. Started with Templestowe and he will exapnd and have a few more.

Also not sure if Ang has an ownership stake, but he has been managing the store.

He discusses it in his book..I just can't remember

The meat for Souvlaki hut is sliced and marinated outside the store then heated up in the store.
So your Greek palate was spot on.

Always approachable and friendly back when I was close to the club. He actually sought us out a couple of times at do's and stuff to say gday. Always a great bloke I thought.

I went up there last Wednesday night but didn't see the great man.

Thought the food was pretty good, and different as dongatwitch has stated.

I like the fact that their souvi's have 7 Grams of fat or less

Does anyone know which nights, or times are the best to bump into the boys at the S hut??

Used to drive past that van all the time.

The font for his signage is a bit wierd and difficult to read.

For years I used to think it said "Mr Furry Kebab" and I wondered how he stayed in business.

Orexi do have nice souvi's, however i remember going there one Friday evening with the wife and they were closed (6:30 or there abouts)!!!

That i cannot understand, even if they have another shop in the city which they prefer to run thoughout friday nights/weekends.

I just don't understand as Oakliegh is a great place for it to make some seriouse cash on a Friday night....
