He's the man! Quote: ...a nice variation on Meg Ryan's famous cafe scene in When Harry Met Sally. A group of Blues wandered into a Lygon Street cafe looking for a post-training snack. Judd was first in line to be served, his choice appropriately diet-conscious. The younger players with him didn't need any prompting. "I'll have what he's having," came a chorus of subsequent orders.

Good article, as he sums up the importance of REAL leadership. Well done Chris. Thank you for the contribution you have already made to this club. |

If it was Lance, they would all have gone to McDonalds or Hungry Jacks or KFC or La Porchetta to get a chicken parma. ![]() Leadership is in the little things often, not just in what we see on the footy field. For all Lance's football brains and directing traffic on the footy field, we don't know how much leadership off the park. That is, in some ways, more important. It does remind me, however, of the arguments put forward by proponents of the Judd trade before trade week. The arguments were that Judd would accelerate the development of the youngsters, he would be a superb professional example and personal example to the younger kids coming up and of course a superb player on the field. |

![]() I believe CJ would be a Carlton captain of the same standing as John Nicholls and Steve Kernahan, which IMO is as good as it gets. Leadership group aside, I would like to see Nick Stevens as the only vice captain. In any other circumstance he would (IMO) have been a shoe in for the top job, but being 2IC to Chris Judd would also be fitting recognition to a great player......Oh yeah Murph for deputy vice. Gotta go to work HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!!!!!! |

I get the impression that Juddy doesn`t really want the captaincy.I think just having him there is enough.Nick Stevens came over to us when we were at our lowest and has done the hard yards ever since and deserves the top job. |

He's just not a fan of the media, he knows captaincy decisions are worked out by many different heads and spilling his guts for Sports Tonight doesn't achieve anything, so he gives them nothing. |

I think what gets lost in some of the Judd/Captaincy debate is that the reason he didn't want the WCE captaincy in 2006 was that he had already told them that he was heading back to Victoria at the end of his contract and didn't think it fair that he take the captaincy. I'm not sure he has any great aversion to captaining a club. |

Of course he chose the "diet conscious" option. Would you wanna look like Lance if you were with Chris' better half? ![]() ![]() Seriously though, that was the sort of example that a player of his quality was always going to set. He has always shown himself to be an outstanding leader on and off the field, even before he was captain of WCE. That's why Judd is elite and others are "good ordinary players." |

Footy Journo's aint exactly flavour of the month around here. But i reckon Rohan Connally is right up there with the likes of Martin Flanigan as one of the best going around.Pretty amazing considering he is believed to be a Pies man.Anything Rohan writes is worth reading in my book.Always objective, fair, and balanced for mine. |

Believed by whom to be a pies man? He's as red & black as they come. But agree, there are many worse. At least he's a footy writer as opposed to an 'opinion' writer... |

I disagree, I'd say Judd is just waiting for the players to ask him to do it, which they will. While I am a Nick Stevens fan, he has shown insufficient dedication to remaining in great shape for mine. Just not a good enough example. He has turned up fat 3 years in a row at the start of pre-season training. He is also not the guy the players will turn to for leadership or inspiration. Judd is. I am AMAZED this debate rages. To think that anyone would prefer Stevens over Judd is just astonishing. 'Hard yards'? I don't think so. He has been very good for us, but up and down a little, is not difficult to tag out of games, and will not be performing like a superstar when the pressure is on anywhere near as consistently as Judd. It horrifies me to think that anyone would think it ok to have Stevens as our captain, when he gets completely tagged out of games every third or fourth week. Meanwhile Judd will be flogging them. And the players run in at the huddle to listen to the bloke NOT getting a kick? No way. No @#$%&! way. Judd has obviously brilliant leadership qualities. Leads perfectly by example, both on and off the field. And is the best player in the comp, can't be tagged, and can be guaranteed to perform at elite levels week in week out. There is NO debate. Judd should and will be captain. |

And luckily he has a couple of natural attributes which have little to do with his excellent professionalism (raw speed, speed round corners, power through hips, super hands, great awareness) that he was born with that seemed to have helped him a bit as well. ![]() |

As if Judd is going to walk into Carlton and say "Rightio boys im captain" He wont say it but thats what is going to happen. Stevens has a snowflakes chance in hell.... All the players are in Judds corner and so is Fev. Stevens has Kouta and Lance in his corner.... La la landers believe Stevens will be captain in two months time... which is enough time to have Judd settled. |

Let's think... a bloke who wanted to come to carlton, is a professional through and through, and has achieved personal and team success as a leader... or a fella who wanted to go to collingwood, struggled (by his own admission) to do the right things at times to give his body the best chance, and has not known success for years (though admirably stuck it out and trained the house down). Seriously. Synbad - your la-la-landers phrase was made for this situation. OK, my obvious (to some) prejudice aside, but even a judging panel of Ray Charles, Andrea Bocelli and Stevie Wonder can see the way this needs to go... |
