The Blueseum currently contains no real mention of our first Irish recruit, Colin Corkery. All we have is that he wore guernsey #54 in 1991, and that he was from Cork.

There is a blank canvas awaiting your memories. feel free to download in here.

Pretty sure I have a photo somewhere of him, taken for Blues News.

Got homesick and went back to Ireland - and had a successful career in Gaelic Football - culminating in the last Australia -v- Ireland International Series - I believe he gave as good as he got.

I think Beano would be the one to answer any questions about his Irish career.

Flower it,
didnt work,
if you google image him what you see is pretty much his fighting weight all his career, though he did talk Carlos into going or at least advised him to give it a go.

hmm if i can remember which email i use for Blueseum i'll give a go at fleshing out his cork details later

It's pretty much common knowledge over here that he is an unofficial scout for carlton in Cork which is why we are being hit so hard with 4 players going to club

He was a tall guy, about 195 cm or so from memory and reasonably mobile. The marking side of the caper he had to work at a bit - he tended to take his eyes off the ball when it was close. Probably my best memory of him are from a practice match down at Rosebud against Footscray. He looked reasonably good and took a couple of marks. The Dogs had a young guy who they talked up, Ilija Grgic. Colin looked better than him, especially when it came to kicking the pill (a little awkward, but it went a good distance).

When he went back to Ireland he played a bit of Gaelic footy - he played in at least 2 All Ireland finals for Cork. [I had one on tape.] He could kick the round ball a fair distance. He was probably better designed for Aussie Rules, as there is not so much advantage in being tall in Gaelic Footy. It is a game for real pace, which Colin wasn't so blessed with.
