When the ground re-development occurs this grand old stand is set to be demolished.

http://www.blueseum.org/tiki-browse_ima ... calesize=o

Just looking at the photo brings back so many tremendous memories.

We had reserved seats in the Gardiner stand for years and loved watching games from their as the view was terrific and the atmosphere was electric. The old pew style seating, the lace work on the front of the stand, the 11 cast iron pillars, all fantastic features of a bygone era.

Reminiscing about the Gardiner stand got me thinking.

When the stand is eventually demolished (if indeed it is) do you think that the club could sell off the seats to members as a momento of days gone by?

How much should they charge? Who should be entitled to purchase the seats?

Would anyone pay for a piece of Carlton history in the form of a seat from the Gardiner stand?

Just my ramblings, but I know I'd love to buy the timber that made up my seat, together with the painted seat number - it holds so many terrific memories.

It's massively unfeasible, but they should take it apart, and reconstruct it somewhere... Somewhere it's needed. Like a suburban ground, or an oval in the country that needs it... I dunno. They move scoreboards around, why not stands? Move it to Preston for the Bullies...

It will be a shame to see it go.

Nice photo though. 8)

It was thunderous wasn't it! Especially when we were storming home! I remember everyone around us joking that if we kicked another one the bloody thing would fall down!

It's good to see Carlton supporters seem to have carried that tradition on by stamping on the floor of the Dome which creates a very ominous sound! The other teams that play there certainly seem to do it less than us.

Anyway back to the Gardiner stand, sat there my entire life with a crooked plank of wood sticking into my back and two posts that blocked my view of certain parts of the field but I enjoyed it immensley! Some brilliant memories.

I wouldn't buy my seat to be honest because all it would only remind me of how bloody uncomfortable it was! In the future we should build a proper club museum and have a piece of it in there to remember it by.

Sad to see it go but the new facility should be great!

I floated an idea a while back that they sell off pieces of the stands that they will demolish to fans. I'd be buying a piece.

God we had some good times there didn't we?.................Good Times! :-)

I still remember after the Last Suburban Battle between Collingwood when we anal raped them by 110 points and saluting Big Jack after the game and singing the song with him.

That was a very special stadium.................. pitty we will no longer play on ir again.

Couldn't we at least use it for Wizard/Nab/pre-season comps?

Yeah,

I heard the same thing. Heritage Victoria didn't list the stand in its Heritage buildings but advised the City of Melbourne to list the stand as a significant heritage item - the council hasn't done so as yet but is considering doing so.

Thanks for that feedback. Might make a nice entrance to a physical Blueseum. ;)

How good would that be, gaining access to the club museum via the playing arena. :-D

I would much rather see the development occur on the south side of the Social club rather than the northern - saving the Gardiner Stand. It's the one significant historical part of Princes Park left and it would be wonderful to save it whilst moving ahead with the development.

I was a long-term member of the unofficial 'Princes Park Bas Association' - we used to stand in front of the bar there at the bottom of the Gardiner. The stand used to literally rock when the Blues were storming home for another great victory!

You'll be changing your thoughts on this just like another issue we clashed with. I just hope the "Pratt pack" go with their initial idea.

According to Swann at tonights AGM - its the Heatly Stand and George Harris Stand that are going - and the Gardiner Stand is to remain.
