Ratts on 3AW

Did anyone catch the full Ratts interview on 3AW?

I caught a bit of the start.

Leadership group will be determined before Christmas.

Setanta - will NOT BE PLAYING in the ruck in 2008.

Judd - easing him into the Season

Waite - will play forward with Fevmoving more up the ground, but will also be thrown down back. According to Ratts - Waite = Goodes in terms of versatility.

Fev - had oodles of ops/clean ups post season and is on track for post Christmas getting into full training.

Anyone else catch any further snippets?

that's interesting, ratts rating waite so highly - i was hoping to see waitey parked at CHF for a season - let him own the position and settle in to it. but ratts knows just a teency bit more about football than me

Thanks for that snippet DUC. Why couldn't you hang in and listen to the rest? Now you're curious too. Anyone else add fill in more gaps.

I'm from the school that believes Setanta = Goodes = Waite = Hampson = Kreuzer = Aisake = Bower = Jamison = Austin = Pianta, give or take a bit, and the difference is their stage of development/ maturity.

I love Waite.

He also said Kreuzer will be eased in and not used in the ruck due to bigger bodies. He was asked if Kreuzer would play any games next year and he said he thinks probably half the season.

He said Waite to be used downback.

I caught the end of it in the car. He said he will instruct the team to use alot more handball, especially in the defensive 50 to promote run and a quick counter attacking style. He mentioned the Geelong style which was so successfull this season.

Playing so many games at Telstra Dome will influence his selections, the team has not had enough leg speed and he has concentrated on this with the acqusition of Juddy, Browne and Armfield. He went on to say that he would pick different teams for different grounds.

He went through the coaching set up and that Steve Mckee (sp?) is the (new?) ruck coach which I wasn't aware of, also that the use of Barry Mitchell in a development role was a complete failure which I think we all knew.

He finished by saying the bullants would play 5 games at McLabour this yr and 4 at Preston and it would become 7 and 2 the year after. I really like the way he speaks, oozes positivity and is very confident and self assured in what he is saying. You can just tell he is fresh and really lives for his footy and is up for the challenge ahead.

Hope he is a better ruck coach than ruckman

It's an interesting point Brad. With the extra midfield rotations we now have, I don't have too many problems with playing Gibbs at HBF. I think most of the objection on here last year was from Gibbs playing back pocket. The game he won the NRS was when he played HBF. I'd be happy for him to play 80% of his footy there in 2008, with the other 20% being short onball stints to get ready for his eventual status as a midfielder.

I don't think playing him in the back pocket was the plan. The opposition largely determine where you line up by dragging you to the full back or half back lines.

It will be up to Ratts to work out a plan to keep him from being dragged back. Teams aren't will be no more willing to see him at half back next season.

The only way I would condone this, would be if the match committee generally felt he could be an excellent versatile KPP.

Failing that, the decision to play Waite down back means they are not confident in leaving Jamo and Carlos down there for the entire year, and don't think Waite is excellent at either end of the ground, ie: if he was a gun forward then they'd play him there all the time, surely.

I think you'll find the MC don't sit in a meeting with Jimmae's magnet board program putting their best 22 for the season together. Player positions are determined on match-ups more than anything else, and that requires an opposition list to go up against. Waite may frustrate a few supporters because of his tendancy to go from the sublime to ridiculous often in the one game but the facts remain, he is our best and most versatile tall player. I doubt he'll ever get a fixed position on the field because he's arguably our best proposition for CHF but at the same time he's the only guy who has the athleticsm, size and football reading ability to play on big, quality, lead up talls like Reiwoldt or Franklin. I think Jamo, Thornton and Carlos can take slower KPP like Lucas and Lloyd so Waite could play fwd in those games
