The AFL are planing on splurging up to $100,000,000 on relocating North Melbourne to the Gold Coast.

Surely part of that is money which would otherwise be distributed to Carlton and the other clubs. We are in essence missing out on money (via the annual distribution) in order to secure the future of Nth.

Also the AFL are giving massive concessions to Nth in terms of TPP, access to uncontracted players and draft concessions - surely we as much as the other 14 clubs are disadvantaged by this.

Why the hell should we be forced to miss out on so much in order to secure the future of Nth.

Their members want to stay in Melbourne - let them stay and make the best of their situation. Why should we give up so much to help secure their on and off field success?

That's a lot of donuts.

Let the flowers stay in Melbourne and wither away.

Hey OR would normally agree with you but whether its the Roos or the Magoos, the team moving will be getting a leg up by the AFL.

It's not so much about saving the Roos, but rather the AFL spreading the gospel according to them to the heathen's [cos they are ripe to be converted to AFL from NRL] on the Gold Coast.

I think someone worked out that $45mil is the actual extra payments when Kangas usual allocation is taken out.
The AFL sets aside money for "development" states ie Qld and NSW to promote the code in grassroots footy. This may be where this 9mil per year is from. They are probably also banking on higher revenues if not immediately, then in 10 years time.
At the moment the Roos are a liability on the comp anyway. Without support, they will die. Then the AFL will need to start a new GC franchise which may end up costing more.

Roos Board won't vote for it anyway so it now becomes a non-issue.

There is still no stadium deal in place so how the flower can they make a decision when the major criteria is still yet to be decided?

The AFL has missed the bus, the Titans coming into the NRL, and doing well , will ensure rugby league remains the dominant code there.

A new franchise should have to fork out money to join rather then the AFL funding them, am I the only one who thinks this way? I remember each club getting a part of the money the crows paid to join, why should the GC Dolphins be any different?

No doubt the AFL has set up slush funds all over the place for all types of "agendas"...

Does one have to be a pom to like rugby league?

I would have thought so....

You know how people say "are you from victoria, sth aust or w.a?"
when you say you like football, it is about time people say,

"are you from england?" when they say they like league.

League is an anachronism. Australian Footy should have a future on the Gold Coast in my opinion.

if a new team is set up or relocated to an area it doesn't necessarily follow that the locals will barrack for them anyway - when the eagles inc were formed in wa i kept barracking for the blues, when freo set up i kept barracking for the blues. you can't change teams!

most gold coast residents would be vics anyway wouldn't they? and they'd already have a team, the majority won't change.

the only way i see it working is to admit southport to the afl. north will continue to rot on the vine - until a merger becomes inevitable

The Kangaroos lose money even when they're winning so it's obvious they don't have a future in Melbourne.

Commonsense should prevail and they should have taken the offer to relocate.

guys

they have a history in the afl as much as carlton has and if it was carlton in the same situation we would be doing the same thing

i do not like seeing clubs get screwed over becuase of money

money maybe need to run the clubs but at the end of the day when you have history as long as ya arm like clubs of Carlton, collingwood,Essendon*,geelong and north melbourne etc

it is a sad piece of history that has to come to an end

but norths not coming to end becuase they dont want to play football it is coming to an end becuase of the afl wanting another team n queensland

Nah i say good on North Melbourne to standing there ground and want to go down fighting

I just hope and pray that carlton doesnt face a time like North Melbourne has to

The AFL can get flowered.
The Victorian fans are the lifeblood of the competition, and they are the only ones keeping it afloat. Yet demetriou continues to treat us like sh!t.

-No-one in Brisbane cares about the lions, they won 3 flags only a few short years ago, now their membership is declining heavily and they are struggling.
-No-one could care less about the swans, if you ever get a look at any NSW paper take a look at the sport section.
- SA & WA really only have 2 teams, everyone in wa HATES the dockers, while port cant even get any fans into their finals series'.

Wouldnt it be great if everyone in victoria started following the VFL again, the AFL would crumble and we wouldnt have to put up with their constant disadvantaging of Vic clubs and all of their other crap.
