Had a nice surprise on the TV this evening - saw Nick Stevens promoting the Interchange volunteer program. Interesting that it's been promoted up here when it's a Victorian organisation, but good on Stevo for getting involved in a worthy cause.

Bluehammer will be the first to volunteer to swap Stevens for a first round pick in next year's superdraft.

It's a great cause.

I know someone who works for a sheltered workshop and they need all the help they can get.

That's if the Feds don't shut up them down and make them join the regular work force.

The Carlton website received a plug, but the Doggies missed out.

I've read about Stevos involvement with interchange previously.
He and his partner take a young child once every so often to give the parents some time out.
I believe they have been involved for quite some time.

Its a great cause. well done Nick.

It's good to see a few Interchange billboards go up around Melbourne - with a little Carlton logo on the bottom.

I produced the current training/information DVD for Interchange recently, and met some amazing families and great kids in doing so.

Interchange is a fantastic program that is aimed at widening the social network of disabled children by another family caring for the child for a weekend a month. Due to the attachments formed between the child and the host family, these visits last years, even decades as the hosts become like a second 'family'.

Stevo and his partner have taken a long term commitment to giving their host child more opportunities for development. From my experience interviewing the childrens' natural families, it is not viewed by them as "time out", rather as "Child X's" time, as the whole program is designed around the child, not the parents.

I'll take a 2nd rounder...

Great stuff and a fantastic cause. For every dipshit footballer out there you'll find 5 good ones who put back into the community.

Well done Stevo and a great news story.

It's great to see the guys using their fame for a worthy cause, and not limiting themselves to a short visit to the hospital or a hostel .. taking the kids out would be quite demanding! Well done N24S et al!
