Post subject:  Boxing Brendan ???

Hi guys

In todays Sydney papers, the sport section is talking about Willie Mason leaving the Bulldogs. Itself not of interest at all, but in the article in the SMH

http://www.leaguehq.com.au/news/news/roosters-take-lead-in-mason-race/2007/11/07/1194329318008.html

It talks about Willie Mason going into the ring with Brendan Fevola. Is this something that the club should allow, given that he could get injured. Its not like boxing is low-impact.

Quote:
The Roosters have also offered the carrot of allowing Mason to compete in a boxing match against AFL star Brendan Fevola in the new year, which is at the heart of Mason's spat with the Bulldogs and which could net the player $150,000.

Regards
DH

i was hoping Fev would be keeping a lower profile this year.

I'm not worried about him getting injured, i just think he needs to keep out of the spotlight (and off the bloody footy show), and concentrate on football.

very dissapointing, i had hoped the circus was over

Their was a brief item in The Age on the weekend about it as well with a quote from Greg Swann saying that it wouldn't benefit Carlton in any way and wouldn't be happening.

Yes but I cant recall Fevola ever being caught with Cocaine or had rape accusations against him

This story (Mason wanting to box) has been making MASSIVE headlines north of the Murray (as you'd expect). This is even more the case now that the Bulldogs have decided Mason is more trouble than he is worth and will let him go.

Anyway, I was in the car listening to the news on the way home last night and heard the reports, and thought to myself, who'd be mad enough to fight Willie Mason anyway? Now it seems I have the answer!

Carlton should do all they can to keep Fev away from this sort of nonsense. If the Canterbury Bulldogs (a notorious club in the NRL) are smart enough to see the idea is stupid then it is a no-brainer.

This story was in the Sunday Age from memory, with Swann advising that the Club 'saw no value in this fight for the Club' and preventing Fevola from taking part.

It would be about as one-sided as the Meninga v Wacko Jacko bout from a few years ago. And that lasted all of what, 40 seconds!

Doesn't have one they get on well, which makes the idea even sillier.

No way it would happen..

Fevola apparently goes very well in fisty cuffs from what i have heard, but that was more in his younger days when he was bigger than most other kids, and had a bit more hurt in his system.

These days lifes pretty good to Brendan, so i doubt he would have the same firey detemination. That's not to say he still can't go if he has to.

Mason would probably roll him up into a little ball though, the guys an animal
