With the best player in the AFL now wearing navy blue, new Carlton coach Brett Ratten says the time for excuses is over.

Former West Coast captain Chris Judd turned out at Princes Park today for his first training session with his new club, weeks after being traded to the Blues.

Whether he can single-handedly lift Carlton's fortunes after a wretched run over the last five years is yet to be decided.

But Ratten said morale was high among the players since the Brownlow medallist's signing.
