They've changed the title on the net but in the papers we're referred to as 'pathetic' which is just a weak cheap shot from a garbage paper. I don't blame Jon Ralph because he doesn't write the headings, that's up to the sub-editors, but the mere fact that the Sun felt it was fine to go ahead with such an offensive heading deserves condemnation. Surely that club has to find some way to response to this sort of crap? :x

It certainly caught my attention.

I must say it's a bit spiteful rather than observational. Obviously the last five years we've been a basket case as it says, both on-field and off, but saying things like sounds like it comes from an angry opposition fan rather than an insightful "news"paper.

FYI the Hun published a 3/4 page story on a woman who tripped off a tram because of her heels and was outraged that the tram driver didn't acknowledge her or ask if she was ok. Below that story, literally about 1/5 of the size, they ran a story about a woman being sexually abused and a trammie ignoring her pleas for help.

Now which story is more important?

I think it is a fair appraisal of where we are at.

Really?

$3 million dollar profit.
Strong Administration
Best CEO in the business.
Chris Judd.
Multi-billion dollar president.
Just stole the fitness manager of the Australian Cricket Team
Youngest player list in the league.

Jon Ralph was actually fairly positive in the article claiming Carlton is 'back on track' and its just the players who have to stand up now.

Calling us pathetic is just a cheap shot from an amature organisation. No wonder the Age has blown past the HS in recent years.

The Sunday Herald Sun is more like a gossip mag then a newspaper...
You often find the front page is of some celebrity bullcrap rather then the main news story of the day...

The fact is they put words like that in because they know that most people who aren't Carlton supporters will be more likely to read it and will get a kick out of seeing us being beaten. Carlton bashing is one of the things that keeps interest in footy alive.

They call us pathetic and then line up for interviews at Princes Park. Can't wait to see 'em there tomorrow.

Andain... In what way has The Age in your words"blown past" the Herald Sun? That is just an uneducated, ridiculos comment. The Sunday Herald Sun sells 623,000 copies. The Sunday Age only 200,500. Mon-Sat is a similar margin. The Herald Sun in the number 3 brand in Vic behind only Cadbury and Bunnings. The Age is no.18. The Herald Sun is also the no.1 media brand in Vic. The Age is no.6. In all states except Vic the ABC is no. 1. The Herald Sun has won more PANPA awards than another newspaper in the in the Pacific Region. It is also the newspaper of the AFL. Jon Ralph had an opinion and was looking for a bite. Well done Andain. You gave him his wish.

Lets be honest though. Which sports section would you prefer to read? The Sunday Age or Herald Sun.

At the end of the day the sports section is all that matters  and quite frankly the SHS sport section is deplorable.

But i still buy both, because you can never read enough about sport

On fire CK95! Using someone else's material. It's says your 34 but you are using those little yellow kiddy faces and you have a Tin Tin cartoon under your user name. For give me if I laugh off your retort.

Dominator 7 on the other hand is a great name and he had a clever come back. Well done! But Sydney siders live in Sydney for a reason.

See ya guys, talk later.

What Taff said. By any objective standard we have been pathetic for the last five years. All the mitigating circumstances in the world don't change that. So I don't see why the word offends you so much. You should be offended that we have been (and until we prove differently, are) pathetic, not because the HUN saw fit to call a spade a spade.

True, we don't appear to be a total basketcase off the field anymore, but if we finish bottom 4 again next season then all of that will count for nothing in my view, and I'm pretty sure the rest of the comp will feel the same way. It IS time for our players to stand up and show something. They've got everything they could have asked for over the off season. More money for the football department, better facilities, an entire new coaching team, the competition's best player, the competition's best youngster (again) ...

Yes they are still young; Yes Ratts will need time to mould them into a premiership side; and no I'm not expecting us to necessarily play finals next year. But lets be fair dinkum here, if we are holding up the ladder again, and we aren't at least still in the hunt to play finals at round 16 then there is something seriously wrong with our players cause they have now run out of excuses.

Do you actually buy both, or buy one and pick up a copy of the other from the office?

The majority of Australians during World War 2 didn't want Australia to accept Jewish refugees. It may be an extreme example but the majority aren't always right. The Herald caters to the lowest common denominator and is in a easy to read format. The Age on the other hand goes into greater detail, generally has more interesting articles but is big and bulky.

Oh and btw, the Age was voted newspaper of the year by the PANPA this year. Therefore it is considered the premier newspaper in this region by that organisation. Who cares who was better years ago? Today the Age is a far superior newspaper. I should know, I've read the Herald for most of my life but after reading both the Herald and the Age for the past two years I know the paper that I'll first reach for and it isn't the Herald.

That said I'm curious as to why your so passionate about the Herald Sun. What makes you feel that you have to go to such extremes to defend it by quoting a bunch of meaningless statistics (meaningless that is unless you're directly involved in the newspaper business)?
