Post subject:  Blueseum quiz / article: Recruiting Brownlow Medallists

Writers at the Blueseum have gone back to the recruitment of another Brownlow Medallist in 1991 to add another perspective to the Judd trade. Before you read the article, there's a quiz that goes with the topic, with a link to the articles below that will have most of the answers:

1. Chris Judd is the third Brownlow Medallist from another Club recruited by the Blues. Can you name the other two?

2. Can you name the Clubs at which each of these players won their original Brownlow?

3. The Brownlow Medallist recruited in the early 1990's also won another Brownlow at Carlton. In which year?

4. Carlton gave up 3 players to 2 different Clubs in order to secure the Brownlow Medallist at question 3. Can you name the 3 players?

5. Can you name the State of Origin for each of the 3 players?

6. One of these players played at AFL level for 4 different clubs, including Carlton. Can you name the other 3 Clubs?

7. The player at question 3 won a Premiership at Carlton. The Blues picked up 2 Premiership Players in the same off-season as this player. Can you name the 2 other players?

8. Another 100 gamer at Carlton was picked up in that same off-season, but did not play in the 1995 Premiership. Who was he?

9. In relation to the player at question 8, can you name the 1987 Premiership Player that Carlton gave up to secure him?

10. Despite the heavy trading, Carlton still utilised 7 draft picks. Only two of these players played senior games for Carlton - one is listed as a Premiership Player at Question 7. The other played in the 1993 Grand Final but never played in a Premiership. Can you name him?

Didn't he miss out in 93 to Wangas? Pretty sure it was 94 that Diesel won it.

No - that's not correct. Minton-Connell never played for Essendon* or Fitzroy.
4. We gave up Peter Sartori, SM-C and Ashley Matthews for Diesel.

We also on traded Darren Kappler (from Fitzroy) to Sydney when we gave Peter Sartori and Ashley Matthews to Fitzroy - technically Darren Kappler was on our list very briefly.

No - Ronnie Deiulio is not right - Ron is 2 years older than me and debuted in 1992. Only one I can think of was Brett Sholl and I think Richard Dennis might have been palmed off to North for him - but he didn't play 100 games surely!

This question could (or rather should) be rephrased - this Brownlow Medallist won another Brownlow at Carlton and morally won a second Brownlow a year earlier if not for a blind and vindictive white maggott who could not identify said Brownlow Medallist even if he was inserted up his clacker sideways and even after said Brownlow Medallist had 44 possessions.

Yep - just had to get my head around the year 1991 - '92, '93, 94 - they all mingle together these days...
