With the Logies upon us, I thought it was time to award TCs own award, the Demidenko.
This story is awarded for beautiful writing, excellent presentation and magnificent description.
Named in honour of award winning writer, Helen Demidenko.

The only other criteria is the basis of the article must be fictional or just plain wrong.

Todays nomination goes to Hun journalist Jon Ralph.

This article includes comments such as -

"For all its endeavour, Hawthorn knows it is young and rebuilding, while Carlton is aware it needs to progress this year. "

or "Hawthorn, which had control for three quarters through hard running and vast improvement from its kids, could have gone close to winning it by quarter-time. "

and "Once again, for Hawthorn, the result went astray, but was replaced by quiet satisfaction at the performances of its youngsters.

Scan your eyes down the team list and you will find most produced something encouraging -- Miller's ball-carrying, Lance Franklin's seven marks, Simon Taylor's tap-outs and Williams's four goals. "

Beautifully written by Ralph and glowing in its endorsement of Hawthorns young side.
Not mention his comment of how Hawthorn is young and rebuilding whilst Carlton has less grace.

All very good except for one minor fact.
Hawthorn had a combined age on Saturday of 524 years whilst Carltons was 520.
Yes Jon, not only do the Hawks have an older list but on Saturday, the 22 young rebuilding Hawks were indeed older than the Blues.

Nice Helen Demidenko award BV.

Now, if only some lovely lady could take out the Helen D'Amico award against the Tiges on Sat'dey...

Great investigative work there BV.

Bet you spent more time on that than Ralph did on his whole article.

It would also make a lovely letter to the Hun, even though it would never get published. Maybe Media Watch?

Great idea ( the Demidenko...and the D'Amico for that matter)..but surelyyou can't have an award that will have about 500 nominations and potential winners ech week.....the world will run out of tin within a month 8)

Speaking of the Logies - I was all ready to settle down with a home made caffe latte (double shot 8) , and watch the Logies when who should appear on the screen but a shot of "The Big Fat Pig" himself, yes thats right Demetrispew - who after spending the day feasting on a side of lamb (looking like he ate most of it himself  ) found time to take himself away from his family's Easter Celebration to attend the Logies. In what capacity who knows except maybe a forlorn hope by Channel 9 to try and retain the footy rights.

In any case I quickly had to change channels and make myself another coffee (after I dropped it in shock).

Gees, you gotta love how these 'journos' use forums to source 90% of their 'inside info', then quote aforementioned forums, then have a dig at their spelling and grammar!

When Mr Ralph starts working for a reputable newspaper, rather than a filthy tabloid mag, then, and only then, can he have a go.

No mention that Hawthorn have had unfettered access to the draft to rebuild.

There was a fair bit of similar sentiment by Schwab and Parkin on the friday night coverage before the game on 3LO.
Ralph can be excused because he just isnt very good but Parkin and schwab should at least be able to appreciate this by looking at team sheet.
Parko view is somewhat coloured sometimes. This is especially the case where for example his dislike of Fev doesnt allow him to praise him even if he is brilliant.

I especially liked "The Blues move on to Richmond next week aware they have a ready-made replacement for Brendan Fevola in Waite" - 2 completely different builds and styles of players, but apparently exactly the same...

The weeks nominee- Kevin Sheedy.
According to the Bombers coach, this weeks Essendon* side will be the "youngest he has ever coached"!

The kids, the kids, the kids he exclaims.

Does he know that 7 of the players in this weeks team are 27 or older?
Does he know that the average age of his "youngest team" is 23.50, compared to Carltons team this week of 23.48?

Congratulations Doctor Spin, enjoy this weeks Demidenko.

Given Sheedy is the winner of the award and the criteria to win it.
Maybe you could rename it the 'Hand on Dick' award.
Regards Pedro.

David Parkin must be close behind Pedro.
Some of the stuff he was sprouting on WLF last night was laughable.

A caller rang up and asked Parko if Carlton would use their 2 priority picks! (As far as I know, we only have one available)

Parko responded "I think they'll (the AFL) give them 4. In the first round"

How can a man so immersed in the AFL system have such a poor comprehension of the machinations.

He also mentioned to Ben Cousins that Dean Cox is playing great footy at the moment.
Apparently Cox reached over Morrell in the last quarter on the weekend and fed the ball to Cousins.

I dont think they had the heart to tell Parko that Morrell doesnt play for the Roos and hasnt for 2 years.
