Yes it is... but it does show how much times have changed. Australians have been guilty of similar racism too. Luckily we live in a more open and accepting society these days where this sort of thing wouldn't be tolerated. And it was interesting to hear the original rendition of our club song ... BTW... was that Chris Judd hiding in the doorway?

Its very intersting to see and hear the song in its original context. That was a different era. That wasnt the worst of what the African Americans endured. I think Americans are ahead of us in terms of accepting ethnic differences |

Being of Greek Background myself - I get a laugh at some of my fathers generation talk about the "paleo" Vietnamese, Sudanese, etc. I have to pull them up and remind them of what they had to put up in the 50s and 60s - and they just look at me and say "that was different".

Xenaphobia infers that there is a predominant race that shys away from other races. Australia has multiculturalism built in from its very inception and apart from a couple of "dark" periods (around first settlement with the aboriginals and the white Australian policy), I think that we're doing ok. Being of Greek background, do you consider yourself Australian? Australian-Greek? Greek? or something else? |
