The efforts of this bloke, along with Kouta, Waite, Wiggo and Teague, won us the game tonight.

I defy anyone to tell me that Brett Johnson is not a valuable, and integral, part of our side. And when he hits his straps, he really propels the side forward as seen time and time again tonight.

Last few weeks he has been playing for his career and at this stage you'd have to think he would deserve another contract with Carlton.
He may not have the best skills, he may not have greasy pace, but @#$%&! can he find the ball and when he does, he hurts sides.

Well done Johnno. I never lost the faith.

Funnily enough, thats how I see our entire side

I credit Johnson with the win, personally. There were other important contributors, but we were getting slaughtered in the clearances and Johnno really stemmed that tide and eventually turned it.

The thing I love about Johnson is when he catches the tap-outs he doesn't stuff sround with fancy footwork or handball through a corridor, he just bangs it on his boot as far into our forward 50 as he can. Too many times we get first hands on the ball and fumble or handball to the opposition for an easy clearance. Johnno just tries to get it out and into the forward line ASAP.

Well done Johnno - hopefully you can keep going like you are.

Agree about Johnno, he needs to stay on the ground for 4 quarters. Doesn't have to run too much, just get the ball and move it forward. We realy found something when he was on the ground. Plus his decision making skills are a real asset in this side.

He Deserves some Credit, but he needs to do more.... he is played a good game today and pulled 16 possies... if only he can make that 26 and take his game to a higher Level.... also his kicking is very Questionable... i guess his job is just to get his hands first at the footy....

He also needs to practice his shots at Goal.... otherwise i can defiantely say he has improved from last year... good luck to him....

Started on bench. Played ? 3/4. So 16 possessions isn't so bad.

If, as Yibbida suggested, he got 4 quarters on the ground he would get 26 possies in many games.

Remember too though that we have 60-80 less possessions per game with our gameplan. Even Stevens only averages low 20s per game.

Leading possession winner was Hodge with 32. But how many of those were from their high possession game? Stevens our highest with 26 (from 120 mins).

Brett Johnson always has done reasonable for Carlton i reckon sure he hasn't got the best skills but he finds the ball a lot and always handy for the club i dont think he will get delisted it would be a bit mean i think but if it comes down to him Simpson,Bentick and others it's going to be hard to choose.

I didnt see the first half which I assume you are talking about. I am just curious where Koutta was playing in the first half- I cant imagine us being killed in the clearances if Koutta was playing on the ball.

Johno also made 6 tackles, only Wiggo made more with 8.

tops at what he does is Johnno. Should be banned from stepping foot inside the forward 50 though!!!

I've given up on him at various stages in the past but happily being proven wrong. I appreciate his role.

I tend to agree with ponk...I like his work when he kicks the ball straight out of the packs without trying anything too fancy.

Keep it up....BJ 8)

I gave you credit on another thread PJ, you were faithful to the end and have been proven correct. He has weaknesses in his game, like a lot of players, but he does give us something different and has proven his worth the last few weeks.

Johno is so blue collar he should wear bib and brace overalls onto the field.A no frills in and under type who gets that all important 1 st touch.

No wonder Denis gives him a gig then. I reckon Pagan would take a grease of overalls over a snuff of Louis Vuittons anyday.

was rapt to see him kick a couple of goals after missing lots of chances in his previous games ..

certainly deserves his spot in the 22 at this stage ..

.. go blues ..

Post subject:  his time is up?

Got to admire his perseverance, and no disrespect intended, but surely we've all seen enough to know he isn't a long-term option. We all know he's slow. We know he can't kick. (Does he ever hit a target on the lead?)

It's true he's a terrific ballwinner, but I'm not sure that outweighs the obvious negatives. Keeping him in the side may allow us to eke out the occasional extra win over the next 2 years. But surely it's obvious he won't be a part of any strong, successful Carlton side.

Surely now is the time to do what we did with McCormick, and try and find someone else to play his role. If not Carrazzo, then surely Bentick needs to get a decent run so the club can make a fair assessment on him. And with Kouta's career starting to wind down, surely it's even more imperative that we try and unearth an in-and-under replacement.

In fact I wouldn't even mind them giving Sporn a decent run in that role. He's got beautiful hands and obvious skill, and he's always going to struggle for either the pace or height to play the roles he's currently playing. It certainly couldn't do him any harm, given the form he's in at the moment.

Sporn doesn't have the physicality nor the physique to be an in and under type.
