Post subject:  Jarrad Waite's game against the Hawks
Did not see the first half but watching the live replay now, and I am super impressed with Waites marking. Clean as a whistle and dare I say it "koutta like" . His timing when flying for marks tonight has just been superb, and the way he wraps his big mitts around the ball onca again reminds me of our Captain.
Question is how can we make use of this when Fevola returns?

Its also his running backwards marking which is unreal..

His ability to run into packs and jump get his arms free and still get the ball out... ie Kouta.

He can run, boy can he run and chase.....

Most exciting thing for me is that is two GREAT games in a row.

Only truly great players can string great game together on a consistant basis.

I think this young bloke has turned the corner.

Best signs tonight were Kouta and Waite taking on grab marks.

Simmo showed he belonged in the last quarter with a number of terrific efforts.

Sporn and Wiggins played well.

Walker played a great defensive game shutting down Hodge in the second half.

TBird was outstanding.

We only won by a goal, but like we have played all year, was never out of the contest, as soon as we click in a game I would not want to be the opposition.

Waite has such massive potential, it is scary.

he's shown he can do the freaky things with some stunning goals over the last two weeks. And while tonight was a definite step forward he, like a few of his mates, needs to continue improving and developing his disposal.

If Young Vin can get that part of his game sorted the sky will be the limit.

Was going to be hard for him to perform well 2 weeks in a row after two road trips, and to play like that when the team needs someone to stand up shows a lot of leadership (;)) and character

Liked his comment after the game when asked about Fev missing:

At least the boys kicked it to me, instead of looking for the hair (sic) :lol:

Now he has confidence and the boys have confidence in him, the sky is the limit. (just got to work on those Richo shots :oops: )

David Parkin Medalist for Best on ground and easily his best game for the club. A career high 5 goals and more importantly now starting to show the leadership and talent we all knew he had.

The champion comes forth.

He has long arms when he reaches up, and with the current no chopping the arms interpretation he's doing well. Great game.

I also think that Jarrad is one of our few players who puts real physical pressure on the opposition.

You can see that when they have Waite on their tail they tend to panic a bit and rush their disposal, because they know he won't give up until he's caught them.

The oldman went to the game and said after that he's going to be as good as the late, great Vin. The best thing about Waite other than his hands and athleticism is he is one of the few Carlton players that has a mean streak and has the size to back it up! :lol:

Waite = gun

I think he should now become our lead-up the ground CHF, fulltime... in the Brad Miller mould. I think we swallow too much space from Fev, and Waite should draw opponents up the ground with his run forward and back.

Only downside is his suspect set-shot kicking. On the run/snaps are excellent. He could easily have kicked 7 straight tonight. Still can't win em all!

Interestingly before the game I was pondering who was going to stand up and kick a bag for us- and it was Waite that kept flashing into my mind not Whitnal. I was amazed that he was able to do it in th style that he did- sensational.

Ok I know one swallow only makes about .276 of a summer but if he shows similar form next week then how do we use him when Fevola comes back?
IMO the past 4 rounds has shown that he tends to take Fevs space away and nullifies Fevs effectiveness. I think it would be a waste to not play him in a key position. I cant see Fev playing the pack buster type role he is most effective on the burst- but as we have seen it is too easy to close Fevs space down and stop him scoring.
Waite on the other hand has more potential to take the big contested mark and hurt defenders- should we ignore his potential to do this just so we continue to play Fev?
What about playing Fev at CHF where he can lead up the ground and make use of his fantastic long goal kicking ability and use Fev to feed Waite at FF. Play Whitnal on a Forward Flank where he would be at his creative best working the angles and doing what he does best.
What do others think?

Yeah I reckon so too. He has height, speed, agility. Showed last night that he can be any-bloody-thing. He is LA with a decent attitude, this kid.

One highlight for me was his chase and pressuring of Joel Smith which caused Smith to kick OOB. That was extremely valuable.

Very clean marking last night. As someone said earlier, his ability to get the arms free and give off the handball is quite exceptional.

And his snap....sheesh....freaky.
