...because we've lost games we should have won this year. And tonight we won a game we should have lost. In a wierd kind of way, therein lies tangible, and irrefutbale evidence that we are making progress with Denis Pagan. Pagan may have his match day critics. We may have a list that still needs tweaking and an injection of talent. But so long as we have Denis and the players trust in him, we will always strive to the last minute. Denis will always implore the guys to have a dip and will always ask that they try and never give up. A big win this one, given our two road trips. Fantastic effort really. ![]() The other pleasing factor, and another sign of progress, has been our ability to run games out. Sure, we haven't been fantastic this year, obviously, but there haven't been too many games where we have run out of legs to the point of haemorraging late goals. Our fitness and bigger bodies is another sign that Pagan is getting our team as best prepared as they can be. We won ugly tonight, and I dunno about you guys, but after the last two weeks, I'll take it! ![]() |

Apparently on Radio 3AW Nathan Buckley suggested the Hawks game plan was nothing more than 'organised chaos.' ![]() How shite is their possession game plan. Wonder what Bucks thought of us for 3 quarters. ![]() Thank goodness Eddie turned up tonight to at atleast put a semblance of a smile on my face. At half time I was close to throwing myself over the barrier on level 3. ![]() Regards Cazzesman |

Regards Cazzesman Hey leave the Flemington Under 9's out of this - I saw at least 3 of them hit a target. ![]() |

I listened to the game as I drove to my parent's house. I missed DeLuca's goal because I was being breathalyzed in Gunbower. Turned up he at my folk's half way through the third 1/4. I decided to be social and chat to my mum and sister instead of listening to the last part of the game but my dad was listening on his walkman and was providing updates. Watched the 2nd half on TV after he told me the final result. A couple of his comments: "Where'd you get that Nick Stevens from? He just won you the game.", "Nobody can catch that little bugger Eddie Betts", "Jarrad Waite's dad was a tough, rough backman, I reckon if he came and stood next to you at the start of the game you'd prefer to be on the bench", "Eddie Betts could run through a minefield at night and not set a single one off". He's an Essendon* supporter, but knows his footy. |

At half time I was close to throwing myself over the barrier on level 3. ![]() Regards Cazzesman I think that sums it up pretty fairly. The thing is there's some bloody talented kids in that Hawks team, but they're all just racking up cheap stats and chipping around like there's no tomorrow, and it works fine when your opponent's shooting itself in the foot every 3 seconds. But once the opposition's putting on the pressure and manning up, it's all very suspect.... Having said that, the way they threw themselves into the contest in the first half really put our guys to shame - how many smothered kicks did we have in the first quarter??? Still, as Liam from Canberra mentioned, we'll take that win after what we've been through, but I'll spare a thought for those young Hawks players who tried their guts out but fell just short. |

Yep, amazing what happens when we improve our efficiency in front of goals. ![]() |

It was great to get the win, another get out of jail job and we have some real problems but one thing we also have is fantastic character and spirit and determination and as long as we're within 3 or 4 goals at 3 quarter time, you can't write us off. Overall it was a poor game and we continue to shoot ourselves in the foot with basic skill errors, lack of accountability and missing chances in front of goal. We again didn't capitalise on the times when we had the momentum and struggled to put consecutive goals together until the final quarter. We are also amazingly weak physically, even the young Hawthorn side out there shrugged off too many of our tackles and it is very frustrating. I know we're a young side but we have no physical presence at all and the bodies can't put strong tackles on or escape opposition tackles. Despite several fundamental problems though we got an important win which could set us up for a big next few games. |

Yep. Agree that our skill errors continue to hurt us, but Denis is getting the boys to learn all about good old fashioned G&D. We got the 4pts, and at the end of the day, that is what match days are all about. We do need to perform for a full 4 quarters though, soon with any luck. |

Hawks are playing the way they need to so they can pinch an occasional game and not get embarassed when they lose. Good quality disposal and cutting off their options up the field will get them all the time. |
