Most likely one of our assistant coaches in 2008

Source?

If so, I'd be pretty happy. Speaks very well and BV gave him a huge wrap the other week in the Assistant Coaches 2008 thread.

I heard Greg Denium on SEN say the same thing.

Has had a few offers since he lost the coaching job at Melbourne and seems that Carlton has the best offer.

I wonder if this offer came "Pre- Kruezer cup" as a bit of insurance?.....

Ratten would have worked with him when he was at Melbourne i guess so it makes sense.

Allegedly this was confirmed on MMM tonight...did anyone hear this?

I'd be happy with Riley coming to the club. Speaks very well and knows Ratts well (and you can't discount the fact he has had some senior coaching experience too).

Agree.

He could be an extremely handy partner to Ratts.

Great stuff if true. Love the way he dealt with the media during his coaching stint at Melbourne and reckon he was stiff to miss out on the gig permanently.

Interesting.

Will this be the first time that an assistant has more senior AFL coaching experience than the head coach?

Robert Shaw had 6 years senior coaching experience when he went to Freo as football operations manager. Connolly had only been coaching for 4 to that point.

Does that qualify?

You have to admit it's plausable, big dick wouldn't leave much, if anything, to chance you would think.....

His buisness/time at Carlton might be done quicker than a male virgin in a fish market!

Mark Riley would be a great fit for an assistant coach at Carlton.

Agree with most of the sentiments, I think Riley is a great get, just going on what I saw from his time at melbourne and also the wraps knowledgable people in the industry give him.

With Libba gone and Riley in, there is already some new dynamics and thoughts in the coaching panel. Hopefully this won't be the only change to the coaching team.

Congrats to Mark Riley who bowed out of coaching with a premiership at St Bernards on Saturday. He's contributed a lot to AFL and community football for about 30 years and was treated pretty shabbily by our club at the end.
Well done to Adam Bentick who played under him and at 34 years of age, had 48 disposals and 21 clearances.
I watched St Bernards play Old Carey earlier this year and Bentick just trotted around the middle of the ground like an old school centreman and collected his usual 30+ possies.

At the Old Carey game, I went out and listened to Riley's first quarter address. He's the most relaxed, uncomplicated bloke you could ever listen to but he could dish out a decent spray in his day as well. All the best in retirement.

Thanks BV. How was he treated shabbily by us? (genuine question)
