I have just found out the following: Carlton will remain affiliated with the Bullants for the 2008 season. We will not be standing alone. Barry Mitchell will remain the senior coach. The side will play 5 or 6 home games at MC Labor Park in 2008. _________________ Carlton... Time to make your members the real 'PRIORITY' 2008. |

Great move for the time being but the club needs to make that marriage work for it. The Bullants are Northern suburbs and we have had a few players from that area on our list/ Kouta Ang Christou Scotto Stevens Lance and KREUZER!!! So lets go farming the northern suburbs for members and supporters also. It has a rich history of footballers and football. We should be using the Bullants/Knights for intelligence of kids coming through the area. Just as Geelong have an advantage in identifying and recognising Falcons kids better than anybody else. To me its a massive plus. If it can be harnessed and used to our advantage. |

Great news! Going it alone would be a step backwards. |

One wonders how much influence (if any) a certain Mr Ahmed Fahour had on this decision. Let's just hope that we can find a happy balance between development and on-field success that suits all parties concerned. To go stand-alone would've been an ideal, but very large undertaking, and would've required a lot of rubber-stamping etc. from VFL HQ. One suspects the review into second-tier football in Victoria is ongoing, and a larger job than first expected (with sticking points such as top-up players, access to U18s etc). Perhaps we'll see some change in 12 months time. |

That's the whole issue for me. The setup of previous years I didn't like. More details required ...Stephen M or Mark H ![]() |

as usual I disagree with Synbad - booooo, by the way: Quote: The Bullants are Northern suburbs and we have had a few players from that area on our list/
Kouta Ang Christou Scotto Stevens Lance how is this relevant? Perhaps we should join up with Bendigo as well - few players from that area also |

What's wrong with Barry Mitchell? What he applied for a position he believed he could fulfill? So if your boss was old, had no-idea, and someone offered you a chance to apply for his position (the most influencial on field position at any club) you'd refuse, even when you'd been virtually guaranteed he wouldn't be there too much longer. Get a grip, what's he done wrong. He's coached well, considering we have been the shittest team in the competition and everyone else's 2nd's (that the bullants are playing against) would make our 1st's! |

Geelong also have a long history of ignoring Falcons players. It's been a running joke on the coodabeens for years. |

Disappointing. To me, it sends out a signal that we're not as serious about player development as we should be. |

He's in charge of player development and our player development is a disgrace. Any other club in the AFL would give Mitchell the sack. I didn't believe all the boys club talk but if Mitchell survives... |

To me it sends a signal that Sticks and Bear still weild a lot of influence (too much?). I really worry about the "Old Boy" mentality. Sticks and Bear with Diesel and Dog in the background, Mitchell as VFL coach and Ratts as senior coach. I'm sure (hope) that Ratts was the best man for the job, but the lack of process did concern me, and the Mitch thing does feed my little suspicion that it's a bit "Jobs for the Boys" ish. |

It is all easy to get sentimental and say that we should have our own VFL side again. But people on this site are really getting a name at the moment for over-scrutinising every move the club makes. I don't think some of you will be satisfied until the Board agrees to run all decisions past a binding vote of TC ![]() Realistically, the guys who are running our club are not fools. It seems apparent from all discussion throughout the year that they put strong consideration into going it alone again in the VFL. The fcat they didn't means that there were some very good reasons they didn't. I am sure they have thought about player development in all of this... just because it hasn't worked in the past doesn't mean that we don't have enough good operators to set up the structure so it works more in our favour from now on. It really is time that people started giving this board some credit for making the best possible decisions. If you don't want to do that... then vote them out. But don't sit around taking easy pot shots when a) you aren't aware of all the facts behind a decision and b) you don't have any concrete idea of how the whole Bullants / Carlton relationship is going to be structured moving forward |
