I was disappointed that they didn't take him last year, but then again they offered us 2 thirds of flower-all anyway.

After the year he's had this year he would have lost currency.
This should have been the year that he really stamped himself as a true leader, but I think that the young guys might be seen as better prospects.

He has experience so keep him, if we lose him - who cares?
I'd rather concentrate on keeping Scotland and landing another quality midfielder.

Have we kept a team to under 100 points yet?

..nonsense talk, regarding offloading Thornton.. ..he played much of the year injured, he's a quality defender, one of our better and more experienced backmen.. ..we've got sweet F.A depth as well.. ..as for the dawks offerin' little for him last year, they know his true value, they just wanted to stooge us like they did norf recently..

What did they actually offer us?

Jamo had 13 spoils last night, he is going to be a classy defender with some more beef and experience.

The emergence of Jamo means T-Bird can play the creative role he is best suited too IMO.

I missed the game but didn't he have 6 goals kicked against him playing on Robbo?

Not much more than we have since he joined the club.

The problem with Thornton is his attitude. I notice many are quick to jump all over Fev for his attitude ( and fair enough) but IMO Thornton's attitude has been much worse for a longer period of time. For mine he is trade bait for another established defender if possible.

He is by far the biggest sprayer of team mates on the field at Carlton. And the worse part he has got Walker to start doing it too - to a lesser extent. Just watch any reply and see if it's ever his fault... very quick to turn around. its a disappointing part of his game.

The Backline hasn't worked at all.

It is Full of potential...............i'll admit that!

But when you give up 2900 points in a season,............worse of all clubs by 400 points, then your silly if you think our backline has done well.

Setanta, Austin, Jamision, Bower.............Some great potential there! But still, much work needs to be done.

I'd be putting Setanta as CHB! I like that idea!

I reckon the midfield will really help next year too. Cloke back and possibly Aisake and Hampson for support gives us an improved ruck setup.

Murphy and Gibbs will both be better for another preseason. Through in Stevens, Simpson and Carrots, plus Grigg and pick 3 and we are starting to get a midfield that's a little more potent.

The possibility of T-bird, Jamo and Setanta starting the year down back gives us a spine, and we start to look okay.

And yes, I'm looking through post-season, very rose coloured looking glasses :)

Thornton is the only experienced defender that we have. Guys like Jamison,Bower,Austin and even Setanta would want T-Bird there next to them. We have the worst defence in the comp and we should be strengthening that part of the ground not making it weaker.
Some people have rocks in their heads. T-Bird will be released onto a halfback flank to give us some drive instead of taking on the best opposition forward.

When you have a talented player who many believe has the potential to be AA, you don't get rid of them. We MUST have enough confidence in our coaches to be able to get in the players head in situations like this and turn them around. We should be looking to turn him into a star not trade him

Perhaps the problem with Thornton has been Pagan?? Also it must be very very frustrating coming into a shizen defence and be given a huge workload and win flower all games. Seriously he wouldn't have enjoyed much of his career thus far. Imagine how he would have enjoyed at say WC or Adelaide etc. Will be very interested to watch him next year in an improved team with more help down back and under Ratten.

I must say though I HATE it when players give a mouthful to team mates. Helps no one but the opposition

He did, but....

I've rarely watched a game where a guy gets 6 kicked on him and still think he was in our best and had a really good game. Weird huh. Given it was a match of kick to kick and very open, the supply was not only plentiful but also into lots of space. I don't have all the stats, but watching it I really liked Jamo's game. His positioning is first rate and I really think we have a great find here. Seemed to spoil nearly everything that came his way and he is very good once the ball hits the ground. Very calm and good evasive skills. Good user of the pill too.

Silly coment

From memory, i think Robbo's kicked more than 6 on better defenders than Jamo. Third senior game wasn't it?

Modra kicked 13 on SOS once. :)

This is what I would like to see in 2008:

Anderson Thornton Jamison
Houlihan O'hAilpin Walker

ps. Weight of numbers and midfielders have pushed Walker & Silky to HB :-D

..Thornton has been used and abused.. ..elevated as a rookie to be thrown to the wolves in the worst period of our club's fine history, with so many changing players around him in the backhalf they should all wear nametags so he knows who he's playing with down there week in week out.. ..yes he's had a crappy attitude in regards to hollering at ppl (much akin to fev, but like him) he has little support from the other backmen and nada from the mids upfield..

..i reckon he's a very good player, in the worst defence of the league post 2000.. ..he looks at times not as good b/c the overall team has been a shambles, but never lose perspective when rating him.. ..he's done the best he can (better than any other defender we have over the last few years), and he's notched up a heap of games now for his age.. ..his experience will be invaluable, he'll be running the role of a mckay once our backline finally gets settled next year..
