Geeze, if this is true and Murph is out as well, the team going out on Sunday will be worse then the one belted by North in Round 22, 2003. Surely we cant win now.
Sundays game is quickly losing all credibility.. We could ve been a bit more subbtle with our tanking then we've been.... I hope this doesnt result in media uproar, and AFL investigation and ultimately the stripping of Draft picks..
Don't even go there Dom.
Look, there's no way anything like that could happen. Swann hasn't been hiding from the fact we are tanking. In fact he's been very straight up about it, saying from day one that we will play kids because it's all about next year.
The club won't be making any stuff up, the players who are out will have genuine physical complaints. Whether they could have played had it been an important game is academic really. What's important, and this is what the club will argue, is the players are due back earlier than usual for their pre-season (Ratten flagged this last week), and so they will not be wanting to risk further aggravating any injuries or illnesses given they have brought forward their pre-season training.
It's clever work by the club and totally legal as far as I am concerned. I mean since when is it against the rules to give your kids some experience and sicne when is it against the rules to have an early pre-season and not want your players to miss it through injury or illness?
What we don't want is any internal memos to the following effect. :

MEMO
FROM : GREG SWANN
TO : BRETT RATTEN
Dear Brett,
Don't forget we are tanking mate, so make sure Lance doesn't kick a bag and keep Scotto out of the play, stick him deep in defense or something like that, OK!!
Regards
Greg.
