Matthew Lappin announces his retirement

[quote]Lappin told the Carlton playing group of his decision prior to today’s training session at MC Labour Park. His retirement is effective immediately, having been ruled out of Sunday’s match with a back injury.

“After discussing my playing future with my family and the coaching staff I decided that this was my last year of AFL football. I was obviously hopeful I would be available to play my final game this weekend, but unfortunately it has not worked out this way,â€

Argghh bugger - deserved a good send off.

I will never forget that mark he took against Essendon* in the goal square and I think against them as well the 70 metre goal.

Thanks for memories Skinny.

One of our great servants during these bad years. Not his best season, but he's never stopped trying. On the cards, but a sad loss nonetheless.

All the best Skinny :(

On Carlton Website now:

I must admit I wasn't convinced when we recruited him in 99, however he turned out to be one of my favourites - and certainly one of Agro Jr's 8) .

Always polite and accomodating at Family Days and gave his all to the club - could have gone to Tigers for more money a few years ago but stayed and showed what true loyalty is all about.

Probably could have squeezed one more year out - but goes out with dignity IMHO.

Good on you Skinny

Very sad
Pity he couldn't have played 200 games for us.
Thanks for everything Skinny.
Hope to see you around the club sometime real soon.

That's a shame.

Skinny is definitely a fave at the cameldome. He will be missed.

The indestructable skinny player. There are tons more players in the AFL who should have retired before him.

Favorite memory is the center square long bomb to beat the Scum.

Congratulations on a great career Skinny.

It is a shame that you were not able to play in more successful sides at either Carlton or St Kilda, because I think you would have been a great player at a successful Club.

For me though, I will always remember that you stuck with us during the tough times, even though it seemed there were opportunities to play elsewhere.

Good luck for the future.
