The making of the cups -- to mark VFL Grand Final wins in 1906-08, 1914-15, 1938, 1945 and 1947 -- will coincide with a week-long celebration leading in to the Blues' final home match at Optus Oval in Round 9.

All of Carlton's 16 premiership cups will be unveiled to supporters before the May 21 match against Melbourne.

The VFL did not present successful teams with premiership cups until the 1959 season.

Clubs are to be given one cup free of charge, but are required to pay for all others.

Each cup costs about $7000.

Money well spent?

I think so. :)

Hang on - Mrs S took a photo of the 54 premiership cup at the Doggies shop at the Whitten oval a couple of weeks ago... where did they get that from?

Collingwood would have to get about 10 made - thats how long ago they won their flags

Also I wonder if St Kilda will be getting replica spoons made. (My family could eat soup every night for a month with a different St Kilda wooden spoon and not have to do any washing up)

See, this is where our success hurts us, yet again....Other clubs, like Footscray gets their ONLY one free, while we have to pay for ours!

Yeah, great but why should Carlton have to pay for their premierships?

Shouldn't the AFL pay for it - or aren't they making enough money through their television deals etc?

Or maybe it goes against their belief in equalisation for clubs to win premierships?

Don't know .. but either way Carlton shouldn't have to pay for these trophies. Clubs after 1959 haven't had to pay for them - why should Carlton?
