I've been enjoying the Blueseum articles on the main website. It's always nice to have a tricky little piece of information when you run into those *know it all* footy fans 8)

This is probably a silly questions but here goes anyway :roll:
How do players end up with their numbers? Does the coach decide? do the players have any input? Why do they often change to lower numbers?

Can't really call Kouta a trailblazer in the high guernseys, given that Swannie played over 270 games in the #43 and held the AFL record for that number till last year...

I have a memory of Brent Heaver wearing #49 when he first came to us from the Demons.

In respect of Kouta not being a trailblazer for high guernsey numbers, I don't know how to respond without saying 'garthp' (which I have promised myself I won't use!). Carrazzo is on record as saying that he kept #44 because he was close to Kouta in #43. Perhaps McKay was the first trailblazer of high jumper numbers...

I think you misunderstand me, Molsey. I'm not bagging Kouta. I just thought that given McKay played that many games in #43 (including 4 premierships), then really he was the trailblazer.
