Post subject:  Remembering those 'BLAH' feelings

Well, I don't know how others have been feeling, but recent days have left me with a 'blah' feeling (blah as in flat, dispirited).

For me its not the team's recent performances- I think we have real youthful talent and it requires patience for their development. And I'm happy with Ratts appointment and the promise that there is for seasons ahead.

It's more to do with the fact that the priority pick situation has taken away the thrill of winnng or at least the desperation to try.
And maybe this on top of the disappointing season and disunity over Denis Pagan-there seems to be a pervading 'blah' feeling.

I even wonder whether all this has impacted on fewer previous regular posters being seen posting on this board in recent weeks/months?

Last Saturday's game felt 'blah'. And it felt blah well before the Roos pulled away; in fact it felt 'blah' at the start. Do we want to win? Yes...and No. Are the players giving it all they have got? Yes.......and no? Will we ever know? Does it even matter after next Saturday?

Yes me thinks its 'blah' at the moment. And I do look forward to the post-blah period after next weekend, where hopefully the next 'blah' experience will be seeing the Blueboys losing a Finals game in next couple of years....before going on to be premiers soon after!!

IMHO the priority pick needs to go- but this discussion belongs in other threads.(Forgive me my indulgence here mods)

This thread is about asking what are the events/moments when you most felt 'BLAH' in your years of supporting CFC?

Here below are a couple from me, from recent years

WORST CFC 'BLAH' MOMENTS:

....Losing to Bombers in 1993 Grand Final

....Seeing SOS being carried off at Princes Park after he was knocked out by Milburn in 2001

Et tu?

p.s. If this topic doesn't get much response because its too 'blah', that's fine

I am fine with the priority pick as Carlton needs all the help it can get.

I hate to see Port Adelaide players - in particular Chad Cornes - a few weeks ago laughing at Carlton and at Fev. The only way to rub it back in their faces is to win against them and most other teams next year.

Free agency recruiting? - i would look at promoting that if carlton is down the ladder for much longer. I don't know if i could take much more of this.

Blah moments -

1993 grand final

and

1986 grand final

and

every 100 point thrashing dished out by north in recent years. I hate losing to them.

Following this club through the Pagan era (The worst coach we have had in the 50+ years that I have been a Blues fan)

That is definitely BLAH!

Really only post 2001 should qualify as really Blah...prior to that we were always in the thick of the action.

Not entirely true.

1989-1991 we were VERY ordinary. 1992 was a bit better.

Also, 1997-1998 were quite ordinary as well.

Not as bad as the last 6 years though.

blah for me - 1986 GF. Losing when you're there just hurt even more I reckoned. (until 1993 occured)

1993 GF - and every preceding and subsequent loss to those red and black turds is very blah.

Years 2002-2007 inclusive (yes.. there are 6) were the most 'blah' but the loss to North in Rd 22 2005 hurts the worst in this period.

1993 Gf still rankles me the most

Very blah at the end of '79 when Jezza left too. Big hole in my young heart when that happened.

Yeah, for me the one that tops it is 93. The bile rises in my throat anytime someone mentions it. A heartbreaking, heartbreaking day, and from that day on my mission is to see Essendon* crash and burn.

We can't forget all the anti-Carlton advertising that whole week either.

Yeah but we had never won a wooden spoon before or even come close so nothing comes anywhere near to close to blah like the last 5 years.

Kouta injuring his knee in 2000 was my most BLAH moment, having only started following the Blues in 98...

would you say we were in the "thick of the action" in 1989 and 1990? What about 1997?

Hardly.

Still it has been a long and painful SIX years since 2001.

People thinking that you can have future success without giving yourself the best possible chance getting the best available talent from the draft = Blah

Agree with most of the Blah's so far, I will add the feeling after the '99 grand final loss to North = Blah

Blah feelings…let me see…

This is very philosophical (well I think so). I don't remember the years but my sister tells me that she remembers me trying to explain to her that Kernahan was, indeed, a champion player once. She was too young to have seen him at his peak.

We were still winning but it was how we were winning that bugged me. We were relying on far too many aging players. I could see that the end was nigh but no one would believe me. Some still don't in retrospect.

And I have never heard of a team with little talent being successful before

The "Blah" matches:

1993 GF

1997 losing to Bitchmond by 1 point to miss out on a finals spot

1999 GF

2001 Geelong match.

Any match since 2002 when it looked like the players were phoning it in, and there sure have been a whole lot of those lately......
