I reckon either DeLuca or Kouta up at FF. We'll test the dawks with their height problem down back.

Lappin will start somewhere on the forward line like he did last week, but may go back if needed.

Put big DeLuca in the goal square with Betts at his feet.

Throw caution to the wind and see how Waitey handles himself at CHF, he's the only one who has been taking contested marks in the last few weeks.

Also let Lance roam free and hopefully take Joel Smith away from the play.

Chuck in Longmuir and Lappin for good measure.

I actually think that Kouta to Full Forward or the pocket would be a good move. With the kind of delivery that goes into our forward line (ie high and hopeful) we really need someone with the ability to take marks in a body on body contest. Kouta is pretty much our only tall who can do this.

Deluca is the logical big target, but the big fella needs to work on one-grab marks, as he often spills them or needs 2-3 bites at it.

Longmuir will be interesting, and I think the midfielders seem to have enough confidence in him to kick to his lead.

In a way I am really excited about this weekend. For too long teams have been triple teaming Fevola and effectively shutting us out of games, so it will be fascinating to see how we go with multiple focal points rather than just one.

And Eddie - you only need to get 4 touches this week - so long as they are all off hands within 20m, 4 is all you need matey.

Kouta was at FF the last time Fev was out suspended. I don't think his kicking was too great though and we lost both games. :x

There's all kinds of options depending on who plays.

I don't mind having Whitnall at FF at least contesting, I don't care if he doesn't mark, he's good enough to bring the ball to ground level. Betts' time to shine.

Deluca will be the alternative FF target; agree with Waite at CHF, give him a spell there to see what he can do, i mean, who's going to play CHB for the Hawks?

Beaumont :)

Speaking of Beaumont - he didn't play against us last year. Time to dish him some.

I'm sure he'll get plenty of cheers when he finally hits a Carlton player on the chest for the first time ever!

What will shit me is that Hawthorn will play a "small" at Full Forward like Mark Williams (180cm) and he will burn us an kick 6 goals, because we will have no-one to play on him.

We will play a small forward and he will be "monstered" out of the contest .

HF: Waite Whitnall Lappin
F: Betts DeLuca Longmuir

Waite to start wide on the 50.
Whitnall to be the general at CHF and be our Carey in the Pagan's Paddock.
If he drops it, the smalls can swoop and send it down DeLuca's throat.

On Friday night, we need at least 4 from Whitnall, 2-3 for DeLuca and 2 each from the rest that I have named in the forward line.
Probably could have 2-3 others chipping in as well.

We are going to need at least 3 players covering Good Fev's input on his day.

If we had of kicked straight last week, Fev would only have kicked 2.

Far better to have an even spread of goal kickers. Mind you, having a gun full forward on fire is exciting to watch but if you only have 1 forward and he's well held, then you don't rely on your gun FF to have a field day. Look at the Swans.

The first 3 weeks Fev hadn't kicked what he's capable of, unlike last year where he really did win us the game. Our spread of goal kickers has been far greater.

That is encouraging.

Wouldn't mind a tactic of playing Lappin one-out at FF either.

If Simmo plays, might be worth playing him as a FP like he did in the Wizzer for spells and showed a bit I have to say. Disposal like his should result in straighter kicking at goal.

Just on the goal kicking...

Tonight at training, it was like there was nothing wrong with our goal kicking.
Everything was going in.
Unbelieveable.

I do, however, have a few issues with T-Lo's goal kicking style.

I think too Houla will be instructed to go forward at any opportunity after his performance in the last quarter against freo.

One thing I do know is if Jarrad Waite and Troy Longmuir play in the forward line together, Eddie Betts will get plenty of opportunities. The way both Waite and Longmuir throw themselves around (really fly at the ball) if it doesn't stick front and centre is the next place to be.

Id love to see us throw caution to the wind and come out attacking and play a very positive brand of football.
I reckon if you see the first quarter of the North game its probably a peek into the future on how the rest of the season would go.
We have to stop second guessing and be positive and proactive . (Must be a confidence issue).. and hopefully kick straight.
One thing Eddie will give us is a guy who actually puts the ball through the big sticks consistently.

Good point Ponk, he could have had 4 in the last qtr but i think with so many options up foward it would be better having the footy in his hands sending it into the 50. Most our fowards are pretty good 1 on 1 and when it hits the ground, if Eddie can even smell that ball it will spell trouble for the Hawks.

agree with the Whitnall in the goal square comments. Sit it on his head and let Eddie and Lappin scoot around for crumbs.

Any thoughts on who will cover:
1) Roughead - he could be a saviour in disguise
2) Franklin - has shown a bit already, do we have a match up?
3) Williams - Bannister maybe??
4) Everitt if/when he goes forward.

What about our backline... some of the guys who normally sit on the bench- like Davies - are they capable of playing half back flank?

We may need to try something new - to upset Hawthorn's planning.

Can we use our bench players a bit better?

Whitnall more time on the bench, more options half back flank allowing Houlihan to start in the midfield?

Something?

Anything?

Whatever it takes to win back respect from the football community, because we are close to being back to a laughing stock.

Brendan Fevola got suspended and we will need to restructure our setup.
