Post subject: | From the Blueseum: Bob Chitty - The Spirit of Carlton |
Just finished the Stat shot of Bob Chitty for The Blueseum - and was reminded of what a magnificent and courageous footballer this man was. A two time premiership player, he captained us to our 1945 "Bloodbath Grand Final" triumph - a victory he pretty much engineered and delivered single handedly. Quite possibly the toughest player the game has ever produced, Chitty's exploits include playing days after losing the top of a finger in an industrial accident, and kicking a goal minutes after breaking an ankle. A magnificent footballer whose never say die and win at all costs attitude embodies all we've come to know and love about the mighty Carlton Football Club. Theres no braver and more loyal Carlton player than Bob Chitty. When Brett Ratten talks about the spirit of Carlton, well Bob Chitty is the epitome and pinnacle of that. His spirit still lives, but has lain in a dormant state for quite some time. With the help of our new coach we will start in the process of re discovering it. |

Outstanding work, Deano. Really inspirational - I thought there were only a small number of us available to do the long grind in celebrating the careers of past greats in the Blueseum, but you've led the way. ![]() Deano's admiration of Chitty is well known - I'd love to think that others could sponsor a past player like this and bring their career to life. Jarusa, tcblue and me can show you how if interested. |

The great man has been made player of the week on the Blueseum. I really hope someone writes an article on him one day, would be great to use the headline 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang'. |

He tells me the hierarchy were all saying no way could Bob play but Chitty juat told them "I'm playing". Awesome anecdote kkk. Click on the link in my sig and add it to the Blueseum - they're the exact types of memories that make the Blueseum as fantastic and unique as it is. ![]() |

Thanks heaps KKK - this sort of thing is absolutely priceless and I encourage everyone out there with similar memories to get them recorded in the Blueseum for future Navy Blue generations to enjoy. One of my most respected CFC legends. So tough, even Captain Blood said Chitty was the only man who actually scared him on the footy field. Played Ned Kelly in the 1940's feature film too. |
