I may be incorrect here, but from memory the AFL were planning on changing the PSD order in 2002 to make it that the bottom four would go into a draw in order to randomly determine who received the first pick in the pre-season draft. From memory, I think I read that the rules stated that the pre-season draft picks were detrmined in accordance with the order of each picks determined in the National draft. I think the rules stated simply that the first pick a club received would be its corresponding pick in the pre-season draft, and I'm not sure those rules changed to accommodate the changes to the priority pick system.

In other words, and I think this should be investigated, the rules may mean that we are entitled to the number 1 pick in the pre-season draft as we have the number 1 pick in the national draft. (Assuming we lose the next two games). This is a long shot, but probably worth looking into.

If we don't win another game we will have pick #2, plus the priority selection, to be taken BEFORE the first round. So, in effect, #2 then becomes #3.

Nice try though. :P

that's the point though, the rules don't mention priority picks or national draft picks. I think they just mention the draft order. And in the draft order we, assuming we lose the next two games, will be first. It does not matter that this is a result of receiving a priority pick before the first round of the draft.

PSD has nothing to do with National Draft. Picks are worked out purely on the teams finishing order at the end of the season.

Okay then, I'll write a different way. Assume we get the PP, this will be the draft order...

PP - Carlton
#1 - Richmond
#2 - Carlton

The PP is #1 in name only, but in reality it's, well, just a magic pick! :P

By that theory then trading your pick to another team for a player for example, would give the receiving team an earlier PSD pick and that is not the case.

No it's not, well okay it is. It is the first "priority" selection. The first draft selection is the second one. Who's on first...

Ah the PSD draft. If we get another McLaren or Ackland then I am going to be very upset.

Interesting that with all the talk of the national draft that the PSD has been talked about very little. Who are the possibilities there?

Last year...

ND #1 = Gibbs.

PSD#1 = Ackland.

I think people are too scared to discuss the PSD.

Richmond might not have room on their list to participate in the PSD so we may still end up with first pick in the PSD - provided of course we have space on our list to participate.

Once again, time to look and make a big play for Cameron Wood I reckon - he's not getting a game at Brisbane with Charman and now Leuenberger. Young, athletic ruckman...though if we do end up bagging Kruezer than there is no point as we'll have Kruezer, Aisake, Hampson, Cloke, Jacobs....
