Lance's survival fight

CARLTON captain Lance Whitnall will return to senior football against Essendon* on Saturday.

The Blues last night confirmed he would line up at the MCG, five to eight kilograms lighter than when a degenerative knee injury stalled his season.

Well, it may not count for much, but good look to him. He's been a great clubman for us, but as others have commented, the game's passed him by now. If only he had Thornton's body!

Well,
Lance has finally got to a decent playing weight.

What about playing the young kids before him.

I hope he is delisted at the end of the year because the game has passed him by

They said On the Couch he's dropped 6kgs. Walls summed it up in one word: "Disgrace".

Dannyboy,

Your a smart guy he has no chance of firing.
Whitnall the disgrace is done and dusted. Fancy the club having to impose a sanction on him to lose 8kg. We should be looking at Hampson, Raso, and Benjiman in the last 3 games and not a washed up player.

i like your thinking...
play him FF, if he kicks a bag a game to the end of the year, Freo may trade for him :P
we got nothing to lose

As dannyboy has stated its a good idea to play Lance Lets see what we can get for him if we want to get rid of him at the end of the year.

By the way in the last few month and in particular last two week we have had the youngest team in the last 30 years so guess what WE ARE PLAYING THE KIDS :!: stop your complaining.

Who the hell does he replace?

If it's Russell or Grigg, team balance compromised.

Just hope it's not Jamo.

For the pro-tankers, this is your "Tampa"!

Anyone who thinks Lance has any trade value at all is totally deluded.

We can only hope that Swann does not plan to keep Lance next year, and that Fat Boy Slim kicks a few goals in the next few weeks and somehow manages to sucker in a club into giving us their third rounder.

Wallsy is spot on, it is an absolute disgrace that this guy continues to take the mickey out of this great club, even after he has been appointed Captain.

Who the hell does Lance think he is?

They made mention of a 'diet'. Well why the hell hasn't fatso been on a diet for the past 5 years?

It's the same old story, we see it every year. Lance's weight goes up and down more times than a honeymooner's nightie.

They should de-list or trade him (if possible) and make an example of him, that even Captains will get the sack if they don't do the team thing and look after themselves.

Every year he does this, and yet some of you village idiots keep defending him.

the real worrying thing is if we keep him at the expense of someone like hartlett. injury prone or not hartlett has far more upside than lance. itd be sad to see a younger players career compromised to give whitnall something that he doesnt deserve, namely a contract.

If I were the Dogs, I'd go after Lance over Fev. They're in a situation where they'll soon lose the services of Johnson and West and they don't have a tall forward that can be competitive while they're still capable of good footy. If they chase Fev, they'd lose someone like Griffen and throw their future into one basket, or if they draft a KP they'll be stifled by the time it takes to develop him.

Lance is a very good forward target, his ability to play key defence is non existant due to a lack of similarly attributed match ups, and playing a rebound role is pointless because he doesn't run at defenders, he just holds play up. He'd do well in the dog's fwd line and they wouldn't have to sell the farm to get him. A second rounder in this draft would be acceptable for them I believe. We're hamstrung by the fact that our best player is a full forward and we have a lot invested in a future CHF so Lance seems relegated to a position he isn't capable of playing.

Didnt we field the youngest Carlton team for 37 years against Collingwood?
Did'nt we then field a younger team again playing Port?
If thats not playing the kids, what is?

I must admit, I didnt hear Ratts say he'd play a new player every week. I heard Swann make that statement.
With respect to Swanny, he's CEO, not coach or football manager.

BV,

Are you happy to see Lance included at the expense of not playing a kid such as Austin??

Lance is playing for his career, so I guess Ratten will give him the rest of the season to prove his worth!

Let see how he attacks the ball against Essendon*, if he isn’t up to it he doesn’t have any excuses...
