"Ratten to rebuild the Blues
By Greg Denham
August 06, 2007 CARLTON will appoint Brett Ratten as its next senior coach, after two on-the-job auditions, despite this week continuing its process of interviewing other candidates, including Collingwood assistant Guy McKenna..."

I heard a snippet along these lines on News Radio this morning as well.

I haven't read through all the coaching threads. Is this good news?

Having watched you guys the past 2 weeks I'd imagine it's a step in the right direction?

I don't think there'd be that many unhappy campers, put it that way.

There'll be a few calls of favouritism given Sticks (especially) and Gleeson being on the selection panel. But it's clear from where I sit that already Ratten is giving the supporters more hope, and with that I assume the players are picking up on that too. Certainly appears that way on the field.

I'd be happy if we got him on a two year deal

He obviously has the ear and probably the minds of the players already and after the weekend loads more support from fans / supporters etc.

He'll be a popular choice all around I'd imagine

No arguments from me if Ratts get the job. In reality, it wouldn't make TOO much of a difference who we picked, out of the contenders. If Ratts got picked, it would be good since he is an old Carlton boy.

What we need is hope and a breath of fresh air. I think Ratts has given us that.

Go Blues! Looking forward to 08 already. 8)

If Ratts is appointed this week (after 2 good weeks, and before a possible thumping against Port) the timing will be spot on for tanking.....

I would be very happy with that scenario.

I'm a big Ratts fan and I'll be rapt if he got the gig. I'm sure the club has sniffed around the likes of Roos, Worsfold and Williams and if we can't land one of them, Ratts is the best choice. He's at the club and knows the list. The players like him and respond to him and he's not untried anymore. He will have 6 weeks on the job unlike Mckenna or Bond.

I spoke to Sticks briefly last weekend. After that conversation, I was reasonably confident Ratts had a great show. 3 days later, Voss pulls out, making me doubly sure

Greg Williams was interviewed on SEN on Saturday morning. By all accounts, Williams is very much involved in the club via his relationship with both Kernahan and Mitchell.

Williams said that Ratten would be very very likely to get the job.

As an aside, I think that Sticks has a bigger power base than most would imagine. The man loves the club, but I wish people would stop voting him in as a director.

Roos is contracted to the Swans until the end of 2008. That's why we gave Mick a one year deal for next year.

2009 Roos will coach Collingwood.

Done. Deal.

Buckley?

You might have to make your own permiership coach mandy, just like us, nicking one from someone else didn't seem to work. :-D

I'd love it if it were true but Denham has no crediability what so ever. Remember his article last week about a Michael Voss led coaching team!!!

In a previous post I stated that over the last 5 years I felt the club had lost it's soul. A lot of Carlton people had left or wwere nowhere to be seen. With Pratt, ratten, Braddles, Gleeson, Sticks etc all the news lately i'm starting to feel the club is getting it's soul back.

You can't blame them for trying. Just trying to imagine the filth playing the Sydney style of game. Could get real ugly.. :-D

I assume that is the same Greg Denham who 2 weeks ago said Voss was definitely coaching us in 08. :?
I'm sure if he times his run right, he can nominate all the candidates as being across the line before the season starts.

I have said this before and I will say it again, if this article had one ounce of truth the word Exclusive spashed on the story.

The guy writes crap!

End.

Story.

There is no new 'news' in that story at all. Most of it quotes Saturday's press conference and Fev's already much publicised pre-match cold etc. Greg Denham has no credibility. Regarding Ratten, I would be comfortable with his appointment, but if so the club must see this as a step along the journey toward his progression to senior coach, not him having reached the destination by being appointed. That is, the club must ensure a program of professional development, sports science training, gen Y communication etc etc to ensure that Ratten is as well credentialed as the likes of Chris Bond who has been doing this stuff for years and came across very well in the article in saturday's Age. I think Ratts has it in him.

i listened to the interview with williams and I got the feeling he is heavily involved with dealings at the club, he knew a lot about what was going on at the club and was very careful with his answers.

Pretty sure Greg Denham reported last week that Fev, Lance and Lappin will all go at the end of the year, and now he's saying Fev might stay.

Not sure I place much stock on what Greg says, seems to be a load of old bullsh!t if you ask me. Keeps changing his mind.
