"Promising Essendon* big man Jason Laycock is the round five nominee for the NAB AFL Rising Star Award.
Laycock was on fire early and was a major contributor throughout Essendon*'s 14-point win over Collingwood in the annual Anzac Day blockbuster at the MCG, with nine kicks, nine handballs, seven marks and seven hit-outs." - afl.com.au

yet Andy Carrazzo's stats are far better than Laycocks...
12 kicks, 8 handballs and 10 marks. I would have picked Carrots over Laycock even if he had 7 HO's and Andy had none...

Wasn't it discussed last week that Carazzo isn't eligible?

Besides, after a great first quarter, Carazzo was probably beaten by Farmer in the end.

Surprised that Lovett didn't get it - or is he also too old?

Carrazzo had his pants pulled down

If Farmer/Medhurst hadn't kicked any we would've won

Laycock more than deserves this award. He could have easily been nominated at the end of last year as well. I was at the game yesterday and he dominated while he was on the field.

Saw him play against us last year in the wet and he was very impressive. Look out for this guy and he is a genuine rising star!!

The AFL Rising Star Award was instituted in 1993 to recognise and encourage talented young players in the AFL. After each round of home and away games, a player is nominated and at the end of the season a panel of experts selects the winner. The winner must be under the age of 21 at January 1 of that year, must not have played more than 10 games to the start of that season and must not have been suspended by the AFL or State League tribunals during the season (as with the Brownlow Medal, players found guilty of certain offences and fined or reprimanded by the Tribunal remain eligible to win the award).

So does that mean the AFL does not have it in for us?

It's true Shagger, but no further evidence is required. We've seen plenty over the past few years. Anything else that crops up is not evidence, just a reminder.

I'd be very surprised, however, if we didn't see a nomination for both E. Betts and A. Bentick (if he gets in the side) before the season's out.

Norman was on Medhurst.

Farmer only kicked two goals, one of which was just extremely bad luck for Carrazzo with the ball just bouncing in the opposite direction into the arms to Farmer. He hardly got his pants pulled down.

I don't know about having it in for us... but they certainly look after one of the other big Melbourne clubs very nicely. How Mark Johnson didn't get reported for charging Shaw on Monday is a disgrace... It makes you wonder whether one of the "powers that be" are making sure that Essendon*'s record remains "Spotless"
