If we decide to appeal on Thursday, they couldn't possibly have a sitting before Friday night surely and in the case of this happening I think legally he'd have to be allowed to play on the Friday night wouldnt he?

Well, it's not often I say this, but I went to The Age for clarification:

Hird Free - Fevola To Tribunal

Quote:
The panel has officially cited Fevola for making "unnecessary and unreasonable contact" with Grover's face, but has opted not offer a set penalty.

Cases are only referred directly to the tribunal if the matter is thought to be serious.

The panel defined the act as a level three offence, deciding it was reckless, high-contact and behind play.

He's in trouble.

Misconduct charges are referred directly to the tribunal as there aren't set penalties for them, it has little to do with the severity of the charge.

What the hell is wrong with the media? Why are they so incredibly stupid?

Cases are only referred directly to the tribunal if the matter is thought to be serious. - this is just about the most factually incorrect statement I've read in a while from a journo. Pathetic. It's a misconduct charge.

And from memory Scotland was also a Level Three and got 2 weeks...so if Fev can plead the headlock etc he might only get 1.

Oh and "but has opted not offer a set penalty." - I LOVE the proofreading standards these days...so impressed

This article makes it a bit clearer!

http://foxsports.news.com.au/story/0,86 ... 10,00.html

"The AFL match review panel today deemed the incident serious enough to be sent directly to the tribunal tomorrow night, without giving Fevola the opportunity of making an early guilty plea."

"The level-three offence was assessed as reckless conduct (two points"), low impact (one point), behind play (two points) and high contact (two points)."

The Tribunal brought in a new points system this year.

Although it would make me happier to stick it up the AFL, can't see how this would help our cause in the long run, ie. Would you rather Fevola playing against Hawthorn or Fevola playing against Geelong. Nope get him off and push to get a second hearing done Friday morning if need be. Get him off and then give him a cracker up the ass.

Get the feeling next week Wallsy is going to be righting about Fevola while suspended.

Fev will get 3 weeks. Scotland plus one week for drawing blood and leaving a fingernail mark on his face.

Should mean a win against Hawthorn, loss against Richmond and a loss against the Cats.

So after 8 rounds we will be 2 wins 5 losses and one draw (flying).

On the upside he will be back for the game against Melbourne which will be a walk in the park with Big Fev at full forward.

I have a feeling all will be fine. Unlike Heath Scotland, Fevola was in a wrestle with someone. Scotland's suspension, although a soft incident, was probably warranted as Lockyer was not expecting any contact. As in most wrestles, arms are flailing everywhere and contact is usually incidental, hence the fine. To charge someone twice over the same incident is not possible is it???

Also i am getting rather p***ed off at all those so called supporters claiming Fev should be dropped to teach him a lesson. Idiots. Lets take one of our matchwinners and hope he plays a starring role with the Ants. Even better, play him in the Bullants reserves, ala Cupido, so we dont mess up the structruce at the Bullants seniors. Get this into your heads, without him we cannot and will not make the top 8. With him we are a chance.

I think someone realised they stuffed up with that AFL article. It actually makes sense now

amazing the difference an extra paragraph and some reordering makes

Ahhh the confusion.

Us in the Northern states have seen it all before. Rugby League has had this points system in for years and it's always been a fuggen shambles.

Some of us saw this coming. Pity none of us are employed at AFL headquarters.

i still say - i cant understand why to put someone in a headlock is okay.

its really doing my head in

but fine - alright, all our defenders proceed to wrestle with your opponent, put them in a headlock, then let them try and get out of it and make sure they get 3 weeks.

its a flower joke

this incident is nothing like scotlands (still thinks scotland was abit soft as well) but if fev goes for it, the AFL is a flower disgrace.

I mean shit - Mark Johnsons had more to it than this eye gouge and he didnt even have to face any charges (not that he should have by the way) but for Fev to go for that is bullshit.

And ill say it here - im surprised Hird got the suspended one match thing - free kick and 50m was all that it deserved.

Just saw Brendan on the news - he said he wasn't worried about it.

But we are!

Might be an idea, Brendan, to cut your fingernails before the next game eh?

He said that before the report, and I guess he sort of had to. I bet he's more worried now

He shouldn't have said anything at all.
He'll look like a flower when he gets suspended.

Scotland being interviewed.- "Dont think he should have gone up but seeing he did 4 weeks was lucky"
Mark him down for either 3 or 4 weeks now that he is there. They thought he wouldnt go up.
