for all those that want to blame the players etc.. that article says everything that was wrong with the club and who was to blame.

First of all you spelt Lloyd wrong in your sig.

Second, in the Pagan-Mitchell fiasco, Pagan wasnt to blame. Mitchell made a play for his job and failed. He should have had the honour to step aside. Kernahan should have had the balls to sack him. I have nothing but disdain for Mitchell and I think about 90% of Carlton fans (as opposed to TC posters) would agree.

Thank god that's over, the most unprofessional situation I can recall at a footy club.

Pagan was a child who should have rose above this - he didn't because he didn't care.

if making a play for his job, is being asked to submit an application

then mitchell is an asshole.

right or wrong what happened with mitchell last year was very unfortunate however he has to go. as long as he remains at the club we will always be reminded of that incident. we have to close that door forever. whether he likes it or not he won't be percieved as trustworthy.......and unfortunately that may not be his fault but thats the reality.

Mitchell should be sacked too -both he and Pagan are to blame both selfish and didnt work in the best interests of the club.Ridiculous by both and disappointing that new board /administration didnt deal with the issue when it came in -no one could explain rationale for arrangement and no one willing to take it on
Only reason he is still there is hes a mate of sticks and bear et al -if we are going to go forward we need to get away from these deals with mates
Need a strong coach like Daniher to stand up to sticks et al and break down these mates network deals

Whether or not Mitchell made a play for the senior job or was invited to apply, he ended up being part of the problem.

Our young guys have missed nearly a full season's proper development because Pagan and Mitchell didn't communicate effectively.

I am amazed that he is back at Carlton so quickly. Clearly the administration is laying all of the blame for the communication fiasco at Pagan's feet. Perahps this is somewhat unfair.

It also reinforces in the players minds that Pagan was the entire problem rather than attributing some of the blame to them. I think that is a very bad message to allow the players to receive.

Despite Pagan, many players needed to show more than they have for our club over the last 5 weeks. I think this decision lets certain players off the hook.

C'mon Scott. On TC 4 months before the incident, the Mitchell for coach bandwagon started which meant it had started earlier than thhat in reality. Brown, gleeson et al would have had to have Mitchells support to proceed with their agenda. Do you think they proposed him as coach at a board meeting without him knowing about it. This was an orchestrated campaign over many weeks.
Thats fine but once it fails, the decent thing to do is walk away. Mitchell was a mercenary as a player. He isnt a Carlton man. If he wasnt buddies with Gleeson and Sticks he would have been sacked. If he had any honour they wouldnt have had to. Thats the sort of friend he is, willing to let his buddies look like fools as well as his club.

Mitchell did nothing wrong and the fact Ratts brought him straight back in shows how much he is valued at Carlton.

my opinion is the same as TheGame

all reports tell us that he had the job, until Smorgan shit himself at the prospect of paying Pagan out.

The thing he did wrong was not walk away when his bid for senior coach failed. The untenable situation between him and Pagan hurt the club immeasurably.

Michell must not be at the club in 2008.

Mitchell would have to be praying that Ratten gets the gig next year. Or that Voss brings Brittain with him, and Brittain goes in to bat for Mitchell.

Otherwise, the new coach would run a mile from the idea of leaving Mitchell in place. He's too well connected to Sticks and Gleeson, and probably other powerful people at Carlton. The new coach would have to watch him carefully.

By the way, did you note that the article noted that Pagan was accusing Mitchell of undermining him in September? The Board meeting was in October. Seems that Pagan must have been Nostradamus to guess that Mitchell would innocently accept an invitation to make a presentation a month later.

We had a strong coach in Pagan and it didn't work. Perhaps we need a cohesive coaching team and we will see results. I am willing to give them all a chance over the next six weeks. Perhaps Pagan was the main problem. Most of us a week ago thought so.

There has never been a problem with Mitchell, the staff and players love him. The problem got sacked the other day.

Jim Wilson has been waiting for this to try to justify the crap he dished up last September/October. I've heard him admit in person that he made up shit because he was under pressure to get a story to air. So let's take anything he says with a pinch os salt.

As for Mitchell, I'd be very confident he isn't sqeaky clean in the coaching application debacle.

I don't like him at all.

don't hold back now, I am sure there are at least 20 players past and present that have a different opinion to yours and in a better position to judge

I'll never forget the game at Casey this year - we had kicked 3 goals to 3/4 time. BM says "I want 6 goals" with absolutely no instruction as to how this was to happen. Could not even remember who he wanted as the loose man in defence - he actually had to ask the players. Don't rate him.
