Like any workplace when a boss moves on some of the staff will do a figurative little dance. Some of these people will knuckle down under a new boss, some won't. Football clubs aren't mystical places where people become different to those in other workplace environments. |

Archer? What else are they going to say? Gee, Pagan has turned to shit hasnt he since he went to Carlton? Never going to happen, besides, got me [REDACTED] why they are even have anything to do with it, they have zero relevance to the Carlton Football Club. Interesting how he didn't mention who the skunks at Melbourne are. I assume there was reason why his old team is tanking again like they did a few years ago. They seem to do that every few years. Are there no skunks there or is that simply a case of because they are called Melbourne, they will always be around. If it was never Denis' fault, I take it that Gazza will be recommending him for the Dees job! Flower off Garry Lyon. |

He was a success at North, in a different era He was a failure at Carlton HEAR HEAR HEAR HEAR HEAR HEAR Same old names, Carey, Archer and Stevo. What about the other 200 players Denis coached at the Kangas. Come on others, tell us what a wonderful coach DP was at NM?????????? Do not kid yourselves, Denis Pagan is a two faced man. How he sucked everyone in at his press conference with his DIGNITY and HUMILITY. Get a grip journos......he was simply playing politics for his own self serving needs. He was putting on a show just in case another club is even half considering him for '08. I didn't buy it. And another thing.....I like all of you heard his pc, on the couch and footy classifieds interview. I cannot work out whether his grab bag of mindless cliches/metaphors are for real or if he is having a lend of us. imagine putting up with 4 1/2 years of that!!! And another thing......Just remember the way he left NM. They wanted him to take a paycut or at least top up the money with media/promotional duties but he didn't want a bar of it. He certainly got a "bar" when we offered him 600k with no strings attached. LET'S ALL STOP MAKING EXCUSES FOR HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! In his own words, all I've heard over the last 5 years from many people are screaming labour pains. Up until yesterday, I was still waiting to see the baby. And another thing..........RYAN 2000 and CHUBBYRUSS, I agree with just about all you have to say on TC And another thing........I bear you no malice or ill Denis, all the best, but sorry, you played a significant part in the bleakest period in Carlton's history |

Garry Lyon lost his credibility as a coach-in-waiting when he led the Australian team to a comprehensive defeat against the Irish. He had no idea what he was doing, and lost the series at the selection table when he comprehensively failed to understand how the game was played despite his 'experitse' and picked a bad squad. I know it was a mickey-mouse international rules series, but he'd spent years being talked up but declining the opportunity to coach, and then when he did take the opportunity... He failed comprehensively. Lyon has no idea what it's like to coach an AFL side in 2007. Sure, he watches a lot of football... But so do I. And yes, he played some good footy for a pretty average club for about 10 years... But he was a Melbourne champion, not a VFL/AFL Champion. I simply do not understand why anyone gives any extra weight to his opinions. Sure, they'll be players at Fremantle, Melbourne, Carlton and probably Essendon* who are thrilled that their coach is gone (going). There are some that will not be. It is very very rare that 44 men ranging from the ages of 17 to 30+ will all be able to find common ground with their boss/coach. It's foolish to suggest that those who do not get along with the coach all fail him on the field. Lyon suggests that 'the skunks' almost do it through spite. That's bulldust. Players do not perform to their best week-in, week-out for a variety of reasons. By Lyon's own standards, he himself failed Balme by being injured so often. He hasn't written about his 'mates' at Melbourne. Is Green a skunk becuase he's plateaued as a player? White becuase he isn't damaging around the ground? Johnson becuase he's spent 10 years being good, but rarely winning a game off his won boot? Is Jeff Farmer a skunk for being a tool off the field just when his club needed him on-field? Pavlich for not re-signing? Garry Lyon hold people to a standard he himself never achieved, and ebtrays his lack of understanding of how footy isn't about getting 22 blokes fired up enough to run though brick walls anymore. Lyon's ideas about coaching are as 80s as Jack Elliott and VFL Park. |

I actually thought Garry was on the money here. The effort put out on the field was nothign short of pathetic. It seems obvious that certain players didn't like the coach so chose not to put in. It worries me that now we have sacked Pagan, will these players now put in or will they hold out for 'better conditions'? |

No argument that there are players who have given half-asses efforts, but do you really think some of them did it just to spite the coach? Surely the coach would realise this and play blokes who were chomping at the bit... I think you underestimate the players. They know how far away they are from success. They know that some of the blokes in the seniors won't be there next year. They know that if they win another game they lose the priority selection... And, also, how hard would it be to go out, week-in, week-out knowing that, chances are, you're gonna get beaten? The psychological toll taken each week cannot be underestimated. Footballers are just people. Why get shmashed 20 minutes into the 3rd quarter when you're 8 goals down? Yes, we want them to be committed. But sometimes we hold them up to unreasonable standards. These men kill themselves over summer to be ready and three months later... They're running around for no real reason. It's not even fun anymore. |

That attitude might be fair enough if they were playing in an amateur team. If you don't enjoy it when you're just doing it for fun, then stop doing it. But these guys are on anywhere from $50,000 to $500,000 per year. They are highly-paid professionals. If they want to have fun, then they can chuck it in and play footy with their mates if they aren't rostered on for the Saturday afternoon shift at KFC. |

That's always a danger when what you love becomes what you do. That you can't even find the love - the passion (which we want from them). Yes, they're pros, but go into any organisation that's struggling for whatever reason, and morale amongst the workers will be down, regardless of the pay-packet. |

Agree with 4-5 of the names put up. One of those will not be playing this week when he is omitted. A couple of the newer kids - not so much "skunks" but felt as if they were "not part of it", put in performances to match |

A colleague was talking to the brother of a current player at work and was told "there's a few happy people at Carlton to see Pagan's exit". |
