New coach: One of Ratten, McKenna or Voss, one would think?

New captain: Stevens, one would think?

New kids: We might not have pick 1, because the guys might come out to play these last six weeks under a new coach. However, pick 3 looks likely, + 18 etc or whatever we trade for.

New trades: Maybe Fev, draft picks ( ), or whoever. We may trade these things for someone worth a fair go. I'm not saying I condone the trade of Fev or draft picks though!

Russell making it this year,
Gibbs getting a good go in the centre,
Bower coming of age,
Anderson with confidence,
Grigg with confidence off the half-backline,
Hampson getting consistent in the VFL,

All together with our new dev. staff and others and new kids!

Still a leadership and experience issue - Kokoda!

Obviously not all of these will come true. Injuries are inevitable, and there are players that won't live up to my expectations. Still, there are some things that you can count on.

Many Carlton triumphs have occurred either during or in the shadow of war. And so it will be once again in the early part of the 21st century.

And during that fateful season, which will initially not appear to be anything special or remarkable at all, Carlton will improve significantly under the new young coach, especially towards the end of the home and away season - and he will bring his team to a low place in the final eight.

After the final siren of the last match of that season, the fear of war that is going on at the time will be forgotten. Those that truly love Carlton – some of them will be openly weeping - with joy - for the trials which have taken up most of the first decade of the new century - will be over

But there will be no shame in this display at all, for it will be as if a great liberation has occurred.

They will weep tears of joy because Carlton’s great day of deliverance will have spectacularly arrived.

They will have seen such footballing deeds that they have never witnessed before, and they probably will never be seen like this again.

And the deeds of those brave young players and their coach will then be immortalised in the glorious history of our club.
