In the fallout of DP’s sacking and the massive amount of talk that this has generated I have noticed a trend of opinion raising the issue that we will be looking to tank for the rest of the season to ensure the PP and people (mostly non-Carlton!) imploring that the AFL perhaps investigate or punish us for such conduct (if it could be proven). It is very irritating! It seems that some are whinging that now that Carlton appears to be in a position to perhaps benefit from the current PP rules and get pick 1 and perhaps can’t or won’t have a chance to win their remaining games that the spotlight should be turned on our performances, team selection and list management approach to perhaps identify any evidence of deliberate tanking. It is ironic that now that we have this suspicion placed upon us that the people are imploring that the AFL’s focus should magnify like never before on our every move. There was no evidence of this type of cynicism and concern when the filth booked in up to half a dozen of their 1st team players into season ending surgery 8 weeks out from round 22 in 2005, as did the dawks that year ending in both clubs acquiring PP selection in that years draft. In fact their behaviour was that questionable and surrounded in scepticism that the AFL felt right to modify the PP rules the following year to try and avert that type of managerial decision making. The dogs also reverted to a youth selection policy late 2004/5 (?) when they refused to select older age players who had form in the 2’s as they tried to sort through their kids in the last remaining games. It almost led to the case ending in the courts. No outcry then. Now that we might be looking at our kids in the remaining games we are somehow breaching rules and should be almost investigated. It is laughable yet infuriating We not only don’t need to tank as we are simply not good enough, however, our every move should not now be subject to intense scrutiny because we are somehow going to benefit from the draft system that is designed to support poor teams. This type of talk has started now. Watch how bad it gets as the losses keep accumulating! ![]() |

It was the filth in particular who were responsible for the change in the Priority Pick Rules which led to us getting screwed in the 2006 National Draft - when we should have had Picks 1 and 3 instead got picks 1, 17 and 19. If there is any move to screw us over again their will be more than revolution. Demetrispew better be watching over his shoulder. ![]() |

of course the same people were quiet when - the Saints were gorging themselves - Melbourne were topping up with low picks every second year - Collingwood tanked to get Dale Thomas |

Marci, I haven't seen any articles relating to PP and how we appear to be manipulating the system to ensure that we get it. Can you provide some links please? |

It really is a stupid rule and blind Freddy can see what is going on. Lets hope we are not used as the example again. Besides that we could play our best side and the opposition would still think we are tanking. I think we will be OK. Bring on the draft!!! |

Even here in SA they were suggesting that Carlton should be deprived the amount of Denis Pagan's contract payout in the end of year dividend due to gross mis management. It's laughable the rubbish that comes our way. |

How the hell can we tank? Has no one noticed we have lost our last five by an average of 73ish pts? We have every reason to make 6-7 changes this week if needed as players haven't performed. We also have nobody but kids to bring up as replacements. ![]() |

Not an issue. The AFL's failure to act against Collingwood, Hawthorn and Essendon* will tie their hands. And unless Stephen O'Reilly is working at the club, no one would be stupid enough to admit to tanking. The defence of playing the kids is a tough veil to pierce. But look at the bright side. The torrent of criticism that will reach a crescendo by Rd 22 might move the AFL to get rid of the priority pick altogether in 2008. And if that happens, the Tigers will take it up the clacker as we did in 2006. And that would almost be better than a 17th Premiership ![]() The only thing better would be if the AFL brought in a ballot system for the bottom 8 in 2008 and we ended up with the top pick again. |

Can you provide some links please? DUC, its just talkback but it frustrates me hearing this crap because it will slowly build to more focus and scrutiny on our clubs every move (especially team selection). If the AFL dare even suggest some sort of scrutiny I will lose it!!! ![]() |

Let's not forget that Ron Evans is no longer around. If he was, I'd have no doubt we'd be [REDACTED] up the arse yet again. |

Our season is shot, it's our prerogative to ensure all of our players are injury free for the start of the preseason and to get some senior games into the young players we are backing to take us forward. It's no different to teams like Sydney using the NAB cup to try their youngsters, it's about preparation for the impending season; for us that's 2008. People are sore because they don't like the prospect of Carlton having a third consecutive #1 pick, just like we were all sore when Stkilda and Hawthorn had the best of it at the start of the decade - it's sour grapes. Judging by what Swanny said yesterday, we're being as transparent as possible about the remaining games of the season. He said we're going to try kids and prepare for 2008, if people want to label that as cheating, then power to them; the reality is it's good management and using the system. |

I thought about using an animated gif, but thought perhaps it would be too infuriating for people. |
