A good story of sacrifice and commitment with a nice pat on the back for Mitchell.

Quote:
He credits Mitchell and Liberatore with teaching him how to kick. While he is more rigid in his execution than, say, Kennelly, he is getting better and hits targets. "Barry Mitchell taught me an awful lot about the game," he says.

Interesting that former Sydney captain Paul Kelly made a similar observation of Mitchell at his induction to the Australian football Hall of Fame on Thursday night.

Carlos has been a shining light for us frustrated supporters in this dark gloomy period. Great article.

A bit of an endorsement for Denis there too BV. Kouta as well.

Good on Kouta for doing these sessions with him.

Has a massive upside and good old G & D; he'll make it, of that I have no doubt now.

Spot on Clem.
It shows what someone can achieve with hard work and sacrifice.

What a great story.
The attitude he displays is a huge credit to himself and his family and the excitement he brings to watching the blues games make up for some of the disappointing losses.
Well on the way to being another Blues cult hero.
It comes as no surprise that Kouta has worked hard with Setanta ,he's a great club man and leader for our young group.

He declares an indebtedness to so many people at Carlton. "Denis has been very good to me. I'd like to pay him back," he says.

Then there's Bullants coach Barry Mitchell, Pagan's assistants Tony Liberatore, Brett Ratten and Terry Daniher, property steward Wayne Gilbert, whom he hounds for footballs, and Anthony Koutoufides, who has spent countless hours with him in one-on-one skills sessions.

"I can't pinpoint one, they've all been so good to me," he says.

Thank heavens that Denis went after him. Others might have been too conservative to go after him. And I loved the bit in the doco where Setanta said that Denis went up to him and sounded him out about recruiting his brother. When Aisake becomes a legend, that'll be the stuff of legends.

Only complaint (and I love to complain about shoddy journalism among other things) is that as the so-called pre-eminent journo on the sport in this city, Sheahan does actually get a lot of things wrong.
Whilst Carlos' first goal was indeed against Richmond, it was actually in 2005 and not Round 1 this year!
This type of blunder detracts from an otherwise interesting read

You haven't read the punctuation correctly. There is a semi-colon between the 2 statements. It's also a direct quote from Setanta. It just so happened that his first goal was against Richmond. He played in rd 1 this year and we beat Richmond. Setanta in the interview obviously wasn't clear as to what he was referring to. He could have been either:

a) referring to rd 1 this year and his first goal (in 2005) as two separate highlights
b) referring to the Richmond game where he kicked his first goal. But we were absolutely slaughtered in that game so I don't see how it was a highlight except for his goal.

I suspect it's the former and if so, then Sheahan's written nothing wrong.

Nobody celebrates like Carlos - it's that one moment where you have to hold back the tears.

If I were a woman, he'd be the first I'd bone! :-D

Love watching him play, if only Houlihan had the passion of the big man...

A great read and what a great bloke Tadg Kennelly is for also being his mentor. You are always welcome at Carlton Tadg should you ever want to move south

I can seriously see Setanta (and i really do hope) finishing perhaps in the Top 5 of this seasons B&F!

Highlight of the year for me, EASILLY!

I'm still spewing we didn't promote Aisakie when we had the chance, but i'm excited about seeing him and his bro play 22 games next season!

I've been thinking for a while, lets make Setanta vice-captain next year. His energy and his preparation and his passion would be the best thing for the younger guys coming up. At the very least he should be in our leadership group.

I also reckon this extra responsibility wont be a burden on him, in fact I reckon it will inspire him to greater heights.
