I think he's guilty of scratching Grover's face, but I don't think it was a deliberate act, more an accidental grab of the face while trying to gain enough purchase to get out of a headlock act.

BTW, ask Peter Sumich what he thinks of being caught in a headlock.

exactly

IMO - i think the AFL has missed the boat on this one.

Fev is only responding to the actions of the other player.

Jarusa will love this - but studying martial arts (havent done it for a while :( ) but studying martial arts you learn to calm yourself and relax your body - however this sounds alot easier that it actually is and for someone with no training in this instances will react with panic.

IMO - i think the headlock should be investigated more than the eye gouge in this instance.

Scotland'g eye gouge was a completly different incident

Fev's saving grace may be this:

His hair was pulled - both hands...unecessary contact to the head
His head and neck were in a headlock...misconduct + unecessary contact to the head.

These will be the defences...this is why he reached across his face...

The tribunal may not want the first two overly scrutinised...that may be the ONLY saviour.

BTW for the wresting watchers and participators, other than Synbad...you'll notice that it's common...almost instinctive that you grab at the face and push back...preferably using the nose as leverage.
Doesn't excuse it...If you could give someone a week for being stupid, Fev would be first in queue

Regardless, how long will the Match Review Panel take to declare that it has either cleared Fev or will charge him. I mean this is ridiculous. We have a game on Friday and you'd think that it would be good to have this clarified asap. This should've been concluded ages ago!!! :x

Fined Fev free for Friday

Quote:
CARLTON's out-of-form full-forward Brendan Fevola is free to play against Hawthorn on Friday night after being fined for wrestling in Perth on Saturday night.

Fevola was involved in an incident with Fremantle's Antoni Grover in the second quarter before Grover was sent off under the blood rule, which prompted a notice of investigation by the umpires.

However, the only action yesterday from the AFL's match review panel was to fine both players $900.

So is that it? Is he off?

its the only decent conclusion IMO

i still say that Gover had something to answer for.

It really does surprise me that putting someone in a headlock isnt taken more seriously

Hmmm I'm not sure that article is correct - other articles are stating that a decision is yet to be made

I'm sure I heard on MMM last night that they hadn't finished reviewing the incident. Anyway if he's free for Friday that's....a good thing :)

2pm news on SEN just reported that Fev and Grover have accepted $900 fines for wrestling.. Nothing else about any more investigations....

I had very little doubt that Fev was not going to get charged for putting his hands in Grover's face. Due to the severe physical duress he was under whilst being wrestled and in a headlock, and having no vision of where he was placing his hands I dont think the MRP could compile much of a case. His actions were negligent at worst and if Heath got 2 weeks for DELIBERATELY placing his hands in Tarkyn's face, whilst being under no duress and standing over the opponent how was Fev ever going to get charged and suspended for anything at all.

I just think they could clear these things up more promptly. Having this lingering around until Tuesday afternoon is unacceptable for teams playing on Friday.

if you think about it, why would the tribunal need 2 seperate days to determine the verdict of 1 incident?

Inconclusive evidence.
They want something from Grover,
I think Fev should be in the clear.... unless Grover sings like a canary.....
