First it was the discussion on AW between Walls and Pagan's Love child Wayne. The on Foxtel Parko was asked and listed who he would cull if he walked in as coach in '08. No real shocks in it Ackland Saddo Teague Laaaaance Mclaren, Skinny FEV Kouta and the others that you'd expect Wiggo Bannister ( anyone who might have palyed but isn't up to it) The discussion then took place about what other coaches have done! Parko told my favourite story after Shaw spoke of Blight sacking all of Adelaides favourite sons The story is about a BBQ held at Sellers place. Sellers asked Parko to look around and say something about everybody there. Parkins answer " I sacked the lot of you". And the great from this club were there. Sellers JB Ashy Buzz Jonno You name it they were there!! And he did too! |

Yep I remember when Parko came in after Jezza with a 3 year plan. He cleaned out all the old veterans at that time also and what happened? GF in 1993!! A spring clean will do wonders for the Blues in 2008 IMO. |

There are two blokes on this earth that should never air their opinion on anything to do with the Carlton Football Club ... John Elliott and David Parkin. |

Buzz went home at the end of '83 during Parkin's reign to be close to his sick and dying father - according to all medja reports. Wonder who would have taken the number 4 if he had stayed after doing much of the pre-season in '85-'86? An interesting condundrum. Maybe that's the reason why he pissed off again. Wasn't gonna get the coveted number 4 again. |

Chyna, Buzz went home and asked for more money at the end of each year. It seemed to be a negotiation tactic he employed. Then the last time he went home he put his fist through a plate glass window and severed the nerves in his hand and they thought he would never be able to play again which was a very bad loss for us. Maybe Parko got too close to the players towards the end and thought they would lift for him again. Maybe Jack said don't worry about the draft we'll buy whoever you want. Who knows? However history does show that we didn't use the draft properly and gave away early picks rather than develop our own and Parko has to accept some of the blame. |

The remote nearly went through the plasma last night watching that crap ![]() Parkin is one of the main reasons we're in the shit we are at the moment ![]() The game has changed Davo, no more creating teams with a cheque book and pen overnight, you goose. |

He doesn't say it often, but I've heard Parkin say a couple of times that he should have culled the list immediately after the 95GF and has admitted his failure to do that and to continue topping up has played a part in us being in our current mess. |

What's this got to do with drums beating louder than ever? That was a sign that Pagan might get the sack surely. But this thread just talks about Parko sacking some old players. The Carlton list has had about 8-15 players worth sacking every year for the past 7 years. |

Parkin the teacher got in the way of Parkin the coach. I have heard him state he hates the system that demands sides play 18, 19, 20 year olds. The young bodies should not be played so early, so readily (exceptions but as a rule). Unfortunately he held this philosophy while coaching.... |

95 wasn't the problem, it was 97, 98, 99, 00 where he and Elliott stuffed the place up. Problem was, the game had passed them by, they didn't grasp the importance of the draft and traded away top picks for players who added nothing to the cause, yet delivered us all the trouble we have today. Bad, bad list management, so yes, he should take responsibility. Easy to put together a side in the 80s with an open chequebook and any resource he required by a high flying businessman. If it were the 80s right now with Dick in charge we'd have Judd, Reiwoldt, Brown and franklin playing for the Blues. |

Unfortunately he held this philosophy while coaching.... i actually agree with him 100%, players like Murphy, Gibbs, Russell etc.. shouldnt be even getting a game until they hit 20-21, their bodies are just not up to the physical demands of the modern game. it shits me no end when people bag kids who have just come into the game, expecting them to play like they are 5 year veterans. |

Parkin was one of the greatest coaches of the Carlton Football Club. Any-one who says otherwise, has no idea. The man has a great football mind which translated to finals and premierships. Yes he was part of the "team" that made mistakes and to some extent put us in this mess, but he was part of a "team" who made those decisions. |

I hope that in 7-8 yrs when some of these kids are supposed in their prime we are not hearing "body is breaking down because it got battered around so much early" Having said that we really have no choice. |

Agree, some people love pointing the finger - afterall - he only coached us to 3 premierships. His biggest mistake in my view is pumping up Brittain to be our next coach |

Have to agree Surrey. You can have the best list going around but it needs a great coach to win flags, just look at StKilda.Parkin has aknowledged the mistakes but when your in a position to win a premiership you go for it which we nearly pulled off in 2000.

I have respect for Parkin also, until he makes rediculous statements like that last night. He would never do what he suggested in axing 10 players averaging 125 games, and add 10 x 18 year olds who would have to take their place on the field immediately. You can't say things like that and not offer an alternative ![]() I'd like Parkin to name a side for round 1 2008 based on what he said last night. |

Parkin wasn't sitting on his hands pondering the meaning of life between 1996 and 2000. We were a serious threat in 2000 but luck did not fall our way late in the season. Three time premiership coach for the Blues. |
