This is the thing that the Pagan apologists don't quite factor into the arguments - these smashings demonstrate that we are as far off the mark now as at any time since 2004.

All well & good to only lose to the top teams by horrendous amounts, but the Dockers and Swans losses were to teams struggling to make the 8. We have now had more 10 goal thrashings this year than wins, continuing the pattern of '03, '05 and '06 (note, not '02 or '04)

Some point to our wins as improvement and of course the fine skills of some of our younger players. But as a team we are not improving in relation to the competition. Other teams can improve faster than us, but despite all the hoo-ha and the hope our percentage is still very poor. 2005 - 75.5%. 2006 - 74.2%. 2007 - 77% and generally the worst in the league.

It is not enough to say that we're improving because the forward line is finding ways to kick goals unlike last year. You have to look at what the other team is doing, and they are all having field days against us. 14 games in a row we've given up 100 points +, and the 15th (Round 1) it was 98. If we are improving the forward line aspects of play then our opponents are, on average, improviing their ability to at least a corresponding amount.

To follow the argument, it is not acceptable to say 'but thats the way we play'. If the way we play shows a continuation of getting smashed, giving up record goals against each week and maintaining a similar, poor percentage, then the way we play is not good enough and things must change.

There is no doubt this team needs a total revamp. The thing is, how we played in the first 1/4 was effective in stopping any flow in Sydney;s game. What happens?? How do you go from total pressure across every line to an unaccountable shootout in the blink of an eye

We have conceded 1983 points this season at an average of 132.2 points per game. This must be close to a record by any AFL/VFL team
