Hird punished Wakelin for filling a hole in front of him. The ball was kicked towards a lead from Hird in F50, and Wakelin took the mark. Hird came through and laid a hip and shoulder into his back. Looking at it with my one eye, it looked like it was a lot later than Stevo's challenge - not really in the contest at all.

This was at the start of the game, and inspired a bit of a melee.

If the AFL wants a piece of Stevo, they'll have to take a piece of Saint James as well. Hird has apparently been reported already. If you assume Hird won't be suspended, Stevo is a bit less likely to be rubbed out too.

Of course, the AFL is not beyond being defiantly hypocritical.

Hird's was intentional, as opposed to reckless or negligent

Hird was late but he shouldn't go for that, neither should Stevo but he probably will.

btw, if you think the blues aren't playing well atm, Coll & ESS today are atrocious, how Collingwood beat us I'll never know :x

I was wondering if it was the same guy, myself. He played, I think, 1 and 1/2 games in our 2nds and kicked goals on both occasions and showed some zip. But he was tiny at the time.

Just saw the Hird incident. Clumsy at best. Should have been a fifty only. Still tryng to figure out what Stevo did wrong. You are running hard staight at the ball. Bloke gets in your way. Contact happens. And it is a contact sport. Should not be a problem if you do not raise your elbow.

Stevens was cleared.

Sigh of relief, but the big one will be Fevola.

Reckon he could be the difference between a loss and a victory on Friday night.

PJ,

Also very important considering Danny Jacobs is also out

They're missing Hay and Jacobs. If Lance is going to play well in the season proper, this Friday is the time

No way he should get rubbed out for that.

RE: Jacobs...did you get the chance to see Jacob's game on Saturday?

One word describes him...weak.

Just on Hird, as much as I hate the bastard he was un-fuggen-believable today. He's three steps ahead of everyone else on the field with his decision making.

The AFL rub out the golden boy, "I'd like to see that"

How was Hirds goal after the half time siren 35meters out on the boundry line... Pure class......

As for the late bump, nothing in it, hird was leading into the spot and can claim he got into my path.. Happened earlier this year and whoever got off.

If that was a similar incident to Stevos i hope Hird gets 6 weeks.

did someone say Sporny reminds them of James Hird in a post last week???
Sporn and Hird both live in Australia.

James Hird won the brownlow medal in 1996. Joint winner with Michael Voss.
