Very concise and accurate portrayal of the possible scenarios. I thought as much myself when I read the article. I reckon it is more that they have someone in mind for next year and he knows that if he wants a guernsey soon it probably won't be at Carlton. That begs the next question. If they do have someone in mind, who might it be?

If the club are no longer happy with Pagan then they need to make a stance now and get Rats in there ASAP.

take it as nothing more being said by Ratten than that he is ready and willing to become senior coach at Carlton. He hasn't destabilised anyone at the Blues, and he's put our board on notice that his time is now.

Does this mean Ratts was the sneaky leaker then.

I think you're reading too much into this.

To me, this says one thing, that Ratten wants to coach a senior team next year, and he's letting 16 clubs know it. As you would if you were an assistant ready who felt you were ready to coach. Simple.

We'll be hearing a lot more of these comments from other assistants over the next period of time.

What's his special comments ability? Has he ever been on tv? How does he communicate when working with Bruce? Unless he can answer these questions he shouldn't be considered.

How has he proven himself? Where is the evidence to suggest that he can coach? Isn't he part of the coaching team right now? Something doesnt add up here, dont hire him just because he is a legend of the club.

True. Yet some believe Voss will be a good coach.

Ratten has been an assistant at 2 clubs now. He has shown a willingness to learn and prepare himself.
I'd select a panel to interview all the likely candidates and pick the best potential coach.
Not the best ex player.

I dont believe Voss is ready. Then again, who does?

Agree BV - what I meant was Ratts has performed the assistant role at Melbourne and Carlton while Voss is totally untried. The idea of getting someone to coach that has not done an apprenticeship is fraught post Tim Watson.

I think the main problem with Voss is his support team and where he is getting his advice from, I was keen until he mentioned Grant Thomas and then I have cooled.....are we getting Michael Voss or a frontman for the likes of Thomas....

I agree Blue Bird.
I've never been one to avoid taking calculated risks but the coaching situation must be thoroughly thought through.
Voss may well be the best candidate but lets make him go through the same exhaustive process as every other applicant.
If he comes out in front, so be it but personally, I cant see it.

2 stories I remember from Ratts testimonial.

First from Brittain that every Monday, he'd get a knock on the door and in would walk Ratten to discuss the previous weekends game. What he would do differently and what tactics worked and didnt work. I think he flagged himself as a potential coach then.
second story may have been from Parko but I can't remember. Basically at every stoppage you would invariably find Brown and Ratten at the bottom scrapping for the ball. It was a matter of pride and one-up manship t be the player that hands the ball to the ump. ie they always wrestled for the ball even after the umpire blew for a ball up. They would not only wrsetle the opposition for thee ball, but each other. Both hated to lose.

The guy would be a fantastic coach, no doubt

We need to set up a panel to interview candidates -- on the panel should be Stephen Kernahan, Greg Williams, Fraser Brown and Andrew McKay.

The candidates they should be looking at are Ratten, Silvagni, Bradley, McGuane and Hickmott.

Denis is staying on next year.

There are going to be some inclusions to the football department.

Denis and Stephen Icke are currently interviewing for 3 various positions that have been desperately wanting for a long time.

Why would Denis be sourcing out a particular bloke to get down to the club if he is gone.

Voss has a team ready to go, including fitness and training staff, why would the club appoint anyone from now.

Unless Pratt lands a Matthews, Malthouse or Roos there will be no change in with the couch.
