A TRUE HERITAGE ROUND SHOULD BE…………… Hypothetically speaking.... All the old players playing with the new at their respective prime…….. An interesting exercise. A tough exercise. We will all like to change it no doubt somewhere! It will make you think.....Give it a go. Here is mine for the sake of it.. How good would this side possibly be?? FF: Buzz. Fevvy. Pearce CHF: McClure Kerna’s Clape Centre: Hunter Brown Motts CHB: Dean Sexton Swan McKay FB English Doull SOS Followers: Madden, Williams, Ratten Interchange: McKay, Harmes, Fitzpatrick, Ashman. Emergency's, Hanna, Kouta, Rice, Nicholls. |

Ratten would surely win that duel. My pick of the one on ones is : Hunter v Dominator. That would be a cracker |

Backs: Vin Waite Wes Lofts Ian Collins Now there is a fearsome backline. The forwards would be too scared to go for the footy but then again, between them they'd only play a handful of games these days with trial by video. The great Peter Hudson never really conquered us at Carlton because he was initially the meat in the sandwich between Lofts and Waite (literally) and then he copped Southby who, if my memory serves me corrrectly was the only full back to ever keep him goalless. And for you young'uns, Big Nick at his prime would have beaten Harry hands down despite a 25 cm height difference. The rules of course would have to be as per Nick's era when he could just camp under the bounce, jump into the player and put him out of the contest. Nick was also a palmer of the footy to players away from the contest by three to five metres whereas Harry palmed it to a player about one metre away. At boundary throw-ins he used to point to a spot on the ground during his runup and Gallagher would run through that spot when the ball was in mid air and just keep going when it hit him on the chest. Gawd it was pretty to see. Big Nick and Greg Williams in tandem (drools). Williams would have won ten brownlows. Well, maybe four or five. If you want to see how good Big Nick was, watch the 1972 GF where he was unbelievable despite being past his prime, which was in the mid to late 60s. Polly Farmer and Big Nick used to draw a crowd just to watch them play against each other. The big debate of the era was which of the two was the better ruckman and it was and never will be resolved. (even though Nick was better) Finally, in any theoretical Carlton team, Big Nick is ALWAYS the first ruck. It's a rule. |

Just a question... Given it was 70s heritage round, why didn't we wear out 70s jumper today? |
